Danavas Posted December 23, 2005 Posted December 23, 2005 I bought another gig of OCZ Gold VX PC-4000 ram. However with all 2Gigs of ram in, bios only recognizes 1Gig when it posts. Also when I load up windows, it also only recognizes 1Gig, CPU-Z is the only thing that recongizes all 2 Gigs. All the ram passes memtest (which also only recognizes only 1Gig if all the slots are occupied). However, I lowered the voltage and took some old value ram I had laying around and tested it with both Gig kits of OCZ, and nothing had a problem recognizeing all 2 gigs. Does anyone have any idea what is causeing this? I have tried the latest offical bios (623-3, and the modifed 623-2 bios)
THunDA Posted December 23, 2005 Posted December 23, 2005 Try this with all four sticks installed.. - Unplug your psu and press the power button a few times to discharge any power left in the mobo.. - Move the cmos jumper to the clear position and remove the cmos battery.. - Wait about 20 min's.. a little more wont hurt.. - Move the cmos jumper back to the normal position and put the battery back in.. - Plug in your psu.. - When you boot up go right into bios and load optimized defaults then save and exit.. Follow this exactly and post back your results.. !
Danavas Posted December 23, 2005 Posted December 23, 2005 I did exactly as you said, it still only detects 1gig, and the system wont load windows, its stuck on 2 leds. I think its trying to run 1T (it allways seems to do that with optimized defaults.
wevsspot Posted December 23, 2005 Posted December 23, 2005 What voltage are you sending to your VX chips?
Danavas Posted December 24, 2005 Posted December 24, 2005 3.2 or 3.3 for ddr 200 speeds, and ive tried that with timeings as relaxed as 3-4-4-
wevsspot Posted December 24, 2005 Posted December 24, 2005 You can disable the 1T command rate by going into your BIOS and disabling CPC in the Genie BIOS section. That will put your command rate at 2T. After you do this, perform the full CMOS clear that Thunda recommends. Afterwards you might try to clear the ECSD and reboot the computer. If all else fails, drop back to 1 stick of ram, clear CMOS again, load optimized defaults etc. Then add one stick at a time, repeating the above steps and verifying that your ram is being detected after the installation of each stick. Danavas Posted December 24, 2005 Posted December 24, 2005 Yea, ive been telling it to run at 2T, if not it wont boot. Ill try inserting one stick at a time but what is ECSD?
wevsspot Posted December 25, 2005 Posted December 25, 2005 ECSD = Extended System Configuration Data. It is the portion of your BIOS that essentially tells Windows what hardware you have installed. Another question, what OS and service pack revision are you running?
Danavas Posted December 25, 2005 Posted December 25, 2005 Im runing SP2, also I tried the ram on a spare board I had (another DFI Lanparty SLI-DR) and it did the same thing.
wevsspot Posted December 26, 2005 Posted December 26, 2005 Sounds like it might be time to throw yourself at the mercy of one of the OCZ guys that visits the Street here frequently and see if they will do a swap with you. Is it possible that your new 1gig kit has a faulty stick since you can repeat the problem on another board?
Danavas Posted December 27, 2005 Posted December 27, 2005 Ive tested all the sticks, there all good. Ive been harassing OCZ's tech people, hopefuly they can get it working.
