Well and truly stuck. No LAN, Missing MB drivers?

Recommended Posts

I'm trying my first build and have run into a big stumbling block. First off and most importantly, you should know that while I have a NF4 Ultra-D MB, I do *not* have any install disks. I bought a refurb via newegg (yes, I know now that wasnt a great idea) and it came with nothing...I even had to special order the sound module and cables. Anyway, I've downloaded the Nvidia Nforce driver install program from DFI.com but no matter what I do, I have no internet access. It shows me 2 NICS, but I cant get either to function. My question morphs into this: What software am I missing that I need to install? Am I missing motherboard drivers that are seperate from the Nvidia driver package? If so, where can I get these drivers?

The MB appears to work fine otherwise, I'm assuming it is NOT a mb defect but something I missing in a big way, like drivers or something..

You could try Here for the drivers .

Thanks, that's where I got the drivers at when I did the install. I'm also confused by the existance or both the Marvel drivers and the Nvidia set. I assume the Marvel is a generic and the Nvidia set will work in its place. However, I've tried using both drivers and it shows two nics but under system>hardware>Manager I have ?? marks for the ethernet controller.

Hey VIS, start with the system driver then after that go to "My Computer" right click then properties and go to Device Manager and look for any yellow question mark. There you will see hardware that needs device drivers, normaly they are your LAN or Graphic cards. After everything got their drivers then you can think about getting the latest drivers for them if available. Be patient and it just takes time to know the answers for the problems. I started the way you are now six months ago and now I'm on my fourth build, my Expert and a 165 Opty. You can get most the drivers you need from the link that Timmay gave you.

On the Ultra-D, there is TWO controllers. One is nVIDIA based, and the other is the Marvell. The Marvell LAN is the bottom port, and the top one is the nVIDIA LAN. Try reinstalling/installing the Marvell lan if you haven't done so already to avoid the "unrecgonized hardware" in your device manager.
