dragon529 Posted December 23, 2005 Posted December 23, 2005 is it safe to directly have the mobo and the case touch? i'm afraid the little pins at the back of the mobo will get owned by the case? should i use some standoffs to keep the case and the mobo not directly touching each other? Graphite Posted December 23, 2005 Posted December 23, 2005 Most cases come with spacers to mount the motherboard with. Dig around in the huge pile of plastic you have in a corner like everyone does when building a machine.
ramdor Posted December 23, 2005 Posted December 23, 2005 No you should not directly mount the mobo - it should be mounted on 'stand-offs' otherwise you'll end up shorting out / blowing it up !!! Richie.
lowboy Posted December 23, 2005 Posted December 23, 2005 Your case should have come with stand-offs some cases have screw holes that stand out away from the mobo tray. But no you do not want to have mobo laying on the tray.If needed get some stand offs.
Guest thespin Posted December 23, 2005 Posted December 23, 2005 And only use standoffs where there are screwholes in the mobo ..

Yes good point ! you dont want to have the standoffs shorting stuff out either. These are the type of things.... Richie. dragon529 Posted December 23, 2005 Posted December 23, 2005 is it better if i put washer then standoffs then mount the mobo to reduce the chance of short circuiting stuff?
KimTjik Posted December 23, 2005 Posted December 23, 2005 The standoffs are designed to fit, you don't need to do anything more than use what is included. Since the case might be used for different standards look for screw holes marked ATX. It is important for stabiblity that you attach the mobo at every hole made in it. Nothing more, nothing less.
