XP pro :

Has some extra networking stuff, the ability to do "remote desktop" and stuff, the ability to view offline files/folders

Some people say it is more secure because access can be restricted to some files

ir supports multi proc setups.

that's baiscally it.

Dialogs and defaults suck in home.

But it's ok for the avg user.

Both should equal out to around the same speed with the same tweaks.

2k pro is faster with 256megs or less, while xp and up is faster with 512m and up.

Xp and up has faster d3d I think it was.

2K3 has faster ogl I think.

Been along time really since I bothered with xp.

That why I said I think, I can't remember straight anymore.

2k3 has faster networking, and faster hd access.

2kpro can be faster because of some bugs with the irq 0 timer..., lol, still cool though.

But 2k pro leaks kernal memory, at least sp4 does I dn about the ur things.

Xp home comes with movie maker, while xp pro does'nt(So I've heard).

Xp pro vlm has movie maker.

There's a ton of administraotr tools missing out of home.

Some are'nt in the cpl but are still installed in windows, some run some don't.

You can copy some from a xp pro install and some work some don't.

The find thingy, for files.

On home it's locked to that stupid dog animation thing, while on pro you have a chioce if you want that disabled.

I heard it's possible to regedit that off on home.

And like I said before, diffrent dialog diffrences here and there between home and pro(like the find thing).

Diffrences between a vlm and comsumer based windows...

Vlm has diffrent files here and there, a diffrent ver type, possibly diffrent defaults, no need to register ever on a vlm.

Etc etc.

I would go for the comsumer based pro ver of xp.

Home is god aweful really, but like I said before, it does'nt really matter to the avg user.

It's easier on a more knowledgable user though(pro is), ie a buddy coming over to fix up your windows because you screwed it up, it sucks to go over someone's house to work on a home install.

Here's the differences straight from Microsoft. Like I've said before, most users are fine with home. Pro is best utilized in a corporate environment, as a part of an Active Directory domain, etc., etc. If you don't need a lot of those extra features, save yourself some bucks and go with Home. No offense to the previous poster, but some of the facts are hit and miss, so I wouldn't rely on some of that info to make your decision.

Again, don't be afraid of that search button. There's a ton of threads on exactly this same question.
