Stevedub Posted December 23, 2005 Posted December 23, 2005 Ok, here is the situation. I have two computers running off a router, one is in the basement. I'm wondering if I can run a cable from the basement computer to a third computer without going through the router. My NF4 board has two ethernet connections, is there a way to make one an out going so I don't have to run another cable from the router to the third comp? I really hope there is a way because I really don't want to run another 25' of cable downstairs to this third comp.
macelius Posted December 23, 2005 Posted December 23, 2005 you can use windows Internet Connection Sharing (ICS), its under the 'Advanced' tabs for your local area network connection and windows firewall. type 'internet connection sharing' into windows help
Stevedub Posted December 23, 2005 Posted December 23, 2005 Ok here is the layout, comp A is the main comp upstairs, it is rather old and only has one ethernet connection. The router is also upstairs. Comp B is the bad butt comp with all the bells and whistles; it has two ethernet ports and it is my main comp, but it is downstairs connected to the upstairs router. What I want to do is add a comp C without running another 25' of cable to the comp A's router, I would simply like to jump from comp B to C, if it is possible. SoyoJoe Posted December 23, 2005 Posted December 23, 2005 You could always get a cheap hub or switch and with the feed from the upstairs router split it off to b and c. Or u can save the money and just use ICS.
