Angry_Games Posted December 22, 2005 Posted December 22, 2005 well...since momma loves to cook, I yakked with culinist quite a bit and come up with these fine gifts...and culinist says they are the best gifts one can give to someone who likes to cook! KitchenAid mixer: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00005UP2...897636?n=284507 (fantastic deal on this thing right now!) Kirkland Signature non-stick anodized cookware (rated best by Consumer Reports as well as culinist himself lol...have to use the cached google version to see it tho...) http://66.102.7.104/search?q=cache:yiiO5ig...+nonstick&hl=en and finally...nothing beats a good set of knives...these are highly recommended by culinist (a professional chef when he isn't overclocking his linux box lol) Wusthof: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0001WVZM...itchen&v=glance or Henckels: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0000632S...itchen&v=glance (haven't decided yet on the knives) I've saved up all my Xmas money for her gifts this year....it makes me scratch my head that she wants kitchen stuff (you know, women's lib 'get out of the kitchen and stop having babies' rhetoric lol), but it is what she loves and what she wants so its what she gets (which is better than a single-wide trailer and a black eye every other week wahahaha) she already knows she getting it so its not big surprise...if you got something for your spouse that you'd like to share, feel free to do so (knowing that wives/spouses generally won't come within 1,000 miles of super nerdy websites like this lol)
VectorTensor Posted December 22, 2005 Posted December 22, 2005 Sorry i dont have anything to share (gift wise) But i would like to comment on the gifts you got Momma... That kitchen aid mixer is top of the line, you will see that exact same mixer in most professional kitchens for the smaller production stuff, Great choice, you can even get attatchments that fit on the front of it for just about anything you would need... The Kirkland gear is really good heavy duty stuff... As for the knifes i would go with the Henckels. From many years of using them they hold a really nice edge and cut through small bone fairly easy.. You found some great prices on that set-up... Angry_Games Posted December 22, 2005 Posted December 22, 2005 ya she checks some site called elise.com or something that always shows these fantastic deals on cooking equipment at amazon...the KitchenAid mixer at $175 is a freakin steal as they are $299 everywhere else for teh same exact one culinist advised me on the Wusthof or Henckels and said either would be good as both are the best quality...and as I said...there is no substitute for a top-quality knife in the kitchen (as we've went through life with teh cheapo JC Penny $79-for-20-knives sets and they stink lol)

Reinvented Posted December 22, 2005 Posted December 22, 2005 Travis, the Kitchenaid mixer is bomb. I use one...and i'm using it right now for holiday baking. Although, I'd kill to get one of those hotel sized ones, because those are gigantic, and I could probably do 5x the cookies in 1 bowl of that size - among other things of course. Also, assorted knives are a great gift too. Stainless surgical steel kind of knives. Very nice addition to any kitchen... momma Posted December 22, 2005 Posted December 22, 2005 Reinvented, I meant to quote your post but instead I edited it, still not used to my mod powers, which is scary. Anyways I was just going to say that I would love the giant mixer too, but I am so excited that I am getting this one. I will be the cookie making queen! Amazon must be crazy busy though since I won't actually have this shipped to me until my birthday (January 17th).

I'm in my 2nd year at the CSCA (Pasadena, CA). Lots of money, and lots will be learned. It's really worth it too. Then you'd know lots of main dishes to serve. And then eventually if you get really good with baking, you could start selling it. That's how a lot of the "really" good stuff started out (home bakeries). We had a 50 dollar limit so I wanted to save all the mony we could so she would not feel bad not getting me a better one. She loved it!(and that is a huge understatement)
nitemareglitch Posted December 23, 2005 Posted December 23, 2005 Kitchen Aid Mixer = teh pwner of all mixers Henckels BEST knives IMO, the ones with the Black Bone handles are nice for casual use, but, for pro use the wooden handles are lighter. Although the Bone handles have an EXCELLENT weight and feel to them. I have zero experience with the ones you showed. Check these http://usa.zwilling.com/products/twin/knives/fivestar/ they are the 5-stars. teh pwn.
