120mm Papst, Delta, Nexus, Panaflo...!?

Ok, I've searched far and long for a fan round-up review, but came up short... The closest I could come to anything which may help me is this generic article:

http://www.silentpcreview.com/article25-page1.html

What am I trying to do, you ask? Wellll, I've decided to grab an SI-120 Heatsink, and what I want to do is pair it with the very best fan I can find!

By "better", I mean that I am looking for a fan with very high CFM, and very low noise levels. (duh!)

The problem is, I cannot find a chart for this ANYWHERE!!! It seems to me that someone, somwhere, had to have done this before. There must be some source that I'm missing that will give me a decent chart to go by.. or better yet, an actual written review of the "best" 120mm fans available. Something will show me (us) the name/make of a fan, the noise level, and the CFM. simple enough, right?

?

Any links, feedback, personal opinions are welcome! And I'd especially like to hear back from those who may use the SI-120 or XP-120 HS, and which fan they went with.

TY ahead of time!

You got close. Silent PC Review is the best source I have found for information on quiet cooling solutions and other components. Fans, heatsinks, motherboards, hard drives, etc....those guys know their stuff.

Here is an article of Recommended fans:

http://www.silentpcreview.com/article63-page1.html

Here is a review of the XP-120. Since it is very similar to the SI-120 and the same size of fan mounts on it, you can use this as a reference guide. In their review they test several different fans, including the one recommended by Thermalright:

http://www.silentpcreview.com/article186-page1.html

I recently decided on a Panaflo L1B 92mm fan, however if I had been looking at a 120mm fan, I would have probably gone with a Papst. Nexus fans are very quiet but from what I've seen, they typically do not move that much air. Delta fans move tons of air but are very noisy.

scroll down to the results section on the 4th page, They are saying at 5v "all the fans were pretty darn quiet, probably quiet enough to satisfy most hard-core silent PC enthusiasts. Acoustically, the Globe was the clear winner at 5V. It was noticeably quieter than the other three fans, certainly the quietest 120mm fan I've ever heard. It had only the barest clicking sound, and only if my ears are closer than about 6" to the fan. It also had almost no air turbulence noise. "

at 48C load on a 3.4GHZ Prescott, thats amazing I think!

Keep in mind, these guys rate somthing that is quiet, quiet!! They said the 80mm intake on my centurion 5 was horribly misbehaived while a storebought antec is louder than it still barely heard inside a case with 2 older semi-loud hard-drives.

I'd go for the globe if you want a summary!

I'd go for the globe if you want a summary!

I cant find any CFM specs on that globe, and i'm also having a VERY tough time finding a place to order one.... lol... they do have my attention though!

Let me make this clear though: regardless of the "dream fan" i'm looking for, temperature IS still more important to me than noise.

That is why I'd really like to hear from more XP/SI-120 owners, so that I can get a feel for REAL temps with the different fans...

anyone?

ps: thank you much for the advice so far!

I have a xp120 and use a top motor .38A fan (cost $4). I tried two Panaflo fba12g12u .65A and they both make a slight click @ low rmps. Smartguardian shows cpu 28-30c at idle with no fan running and 38-40c load with no fan running and ambient temps 20c but the fan is set to start @36c and runs 800-900 rpm @39c which is very silent and keep temps below 39c under full cpu load. You might not need a fan with a xp120.

Ok 120 mm 25 38 how thick?

What are your CFM range?

What are your DB levels your looking for?

Ball bearing or sleeve?

Panaflo is a hydro wave bearing and is the most quiet but also the most likely to fail.

pressurized oil

I buy fans for a electronic distributor.

give me your wish list and I will look into some part #'s for you.

LOL I have a stock scrap on NMB tomorrow I am grabbing some extra 120mm 80 mm & 92 mm.

I buy EBM NMB/Panaflo Sanyo Nidec

Will the new Thermaltake Silent Wheel fit onto the SI-120?

And AMD64X2: I'm fairly sure that thickness does not matter with Thermalright's one-size-fits-all clips. As for the stats, I'm trying to find something pushing more than 50CFM @ 12V and less than 30dBA at max speed....

The stats on the Thermaltake Silent Wheel show 54.4CFM at only [email protected] needless to say, I'm very intrigued by that fan! Has anyone tried to combo this with an XP-120 or SI-120?

I'm thinking it will be hard to mount without larger corners to set the clips to... ?

or worse, their stats may be total BS! It sounds too good to be true... therefore it probably is!

anyone know?

Try to find one of the Yate Loomb orange nexus unbranded fans. They are the same fan as the nexus but spin a little faster they move a little more air when quiet than the panflow at least the panflows I have. Rember that most fans dont like part volts they prefer the 7 or 5 volt mod or a reostat to lower the volts.

Here is a decent article. I think there is a link to fan speed vs nois but not all people perceve noise the same way and the guidelines for testing Db are ignored more than they are followed.

If I run into the link I will email you the best I found was from germany.

There are links to the generic Nexus fans every once in a wile on silent PC forums they are in high demand.

I like the fan I have in my sig. On low, it runs at 1775RPM, an my temp at load is between 37 and 38c.

It is pretty quiet at 1775 RPM.

just out of curiosity, did you OC that rig in your sig, or are you running at stock? If you OC'd, what are your highest stable stats?

and thanks!

I haven't gotten around to doing any OC'ing yet. lol

Funny, because the whole purpose of going with DFI was to OC. But, I've been too busy doing actual "stuff" on it.

I'm also going to be updating my other rig with a new DFI board (I don't like my ASUS A8V), and that will be the one I will spend most of my time OC'ing at first.

But, when I finally get around to it... maybe in a week or so... I'll post my results.
