BlackDragon24 Posted December 22, 2005 Posted December 22, 2005 Hello all, I recently bought two 7800gt's to put into SLI, but to my dismay, everytime I enable SLI, I get this weird buzzing noise coming from my system. It only gets really loud when I'm running a 3D application. However, I can still hear it even when I'm scrolling around on a picture-intensive website. Even just scrolling around on DFI-street I can hear a clickerty click kind of souncd, which coincided with the scrolling from my mouse. At first I thought it might be a bad card, so I tested each individually in the top slot, then tested both in SLI in both possible configurations. It only happens in SLI, regardless of which card is on top/bottom...also, it happens regardless if I am OC'd on my proc or not. It seems like the noise gets louder when there is heavy action during a 3D app....i.e. during aquamark when stuff starts exploding towards the end....but it still buzzes all the way thru the test...same with 3dmark....as soon as it goes back to a normal screen the buzzing stops. I know the cards are ok, so thatleaves me with just the motherboard. Tests seem to run fine and gamin is smooth as butter, but the sound is quite annoying, and I'm worried about the safety of my other components...as far as I can tell, there are no broken/bent capacitors or anything like that. One more thing to mention.....when I enabled SLI via the jumpers, and only have one card in the top slot, the system takes a long time to boot up to the post screen.....my cd-drives just flash over and over and it looks like it tried to boot up about 7 or so times before it is successful. Is it RMA time? I can't imagine being limited by anything in my sig.
KrossHair Posted December 22, 2005 Posted December 22, 2005 Do you know where the buzzing noise is specificly coming from?,if not try taking the side off of your computer than take a peice of paper roll it up into a cone place into your ear then put the end of it into the computer untill the noise is the loudest. It's coming from the area in which the video cards are....specifically I cannot pin point it exactly...sounds like right between the two cards actually. BlackDragon24 Posted December 22, 2005 Posted December 22, 2005 Hmmm....I can even OC these guys to 480/1200 in SLi with no problems or artifacts in either 3dmark 03/05....leads me to believe their must be a some type of power rgulation noise.... Any of you guys out there use fan controllers like the Vantec nexus or sumthin like that? KNow how when you turn the fans down it makes a loud buzzing noise.....sounds very similar to that, only in this case, the buzz is intermittent and changes depending on the task....makes sense considering the power would be fluctuating much more to a vid card than a fan. And yes, I have all four connectors plugged into the mobo...

BlackDragon24 Posted December 27, 2005 Posted December 27, 2005 Hmmm well I haven't found a fix for this issue yet...tried swapping out with a different SLI bridge and no luck. Anyone ever encounter anything like this....
