DTA2008 Posted December 22, 2005 Posted December 22, 2005 hey has anyone tried this cooler yet for the 7800gt/gtx ? http://www.frozencpu.com/vid-43.html Arctic Cooling NV Silencer 5 i heard its a really nice cooler but i just wanted to know if anyone with a dfi board has tried it...i plan on runing a second video card in the spring and want to make sure they will both fit. its pretty tall and i know the x16 slots are close together on the dfi boards. Guest Dynamic Posted December 22, 2005 Posted December 22, 2005 That will be a tight fit i'm sure. The stock cooler on your GT is probably not efficient enough for you, i'm sure! Even if you get the Zalman VF700-Cu it wouldn't be a good idea either. You probably should of went with the eVGA 7800GT CO which comes with a Copper HS instead of the original Aluminium and you can overclock it probably at 500/1200 with some tweaks here and there. See if you look at both of your PCI-E slots they're not that far apart compared to the Asus board just perfectly made for dual slot SLI cards you know. Beside what if they barely fit, you're going to have major overheating problems, just stop and think where are the fans on the GPU going to get air, hehehe. nitemareglitch Posted December 22, 2005 Posted December 22, 2005 A quick use of our handy serch function and I found this, http://www.dfi-street.com/forum/showthread...Expert+silencer Have fun!
Guest Dynamic Posted December 22, 2005 Posted December 22, 2005 That thread is regarding the EXPERT version of the DFI board which is so much different then the Ultra-D in comparison between the two PCI-E slots. With the EXPERT he would have no problems, but with the ULTRA-D or SLI-D/NF4-D he couldn't fit two cards with aftermarket coolers. Just look at the distance between the two slots in the EXPERT, it's practically the same as the ASUS boards with that perfect space. I don't know, but i'm going with the same setup soon here with a NF4-D modded and instead of buying aftermarking coolers for my two GT's i'll be getting the Copper Heatsink editions from eVGA the CO edition. That's probably the best bet i think. GL!
nitemareglitch Posted December 22, 2005 Posted December 22, 2005 Oh true, I did not notice he was not talking about that board *doh* EDIT : This is why I thought he was talking about the Expert board,

DTA2008 Posted December 22, 2005 Posted December 22, 2005 i dont know why it says expert whenever i post??? but ne way i figure they wont fit and your right even if i did the top card would suficate.hmm i gues i could always go water cooling...i considered it once b4 but my finace is this close | | to kickin my arse as is for spending so much money on my rig . i suppose i could buy they water cooling and just cut into my whiskey fund for the next few months  oh and btw i already maintain a stable 500/1.16 clock on my card. i pulled the stock heat sink off and replaced thermal paste with AS5. i also put warshers on the 4 main screws around the core on the back of the card to get a silghtly tighter fit(threads only let you go so far to keep from overtighing). My temps are 40 idle and 60 under a load but....i found this program that abosulutly rapes one's video card http://www.daionet.gr.jp/~masa/rthdribl with this program my card reached 65
Guest Dynamic Posted December 22, 2005 Posted December 22, 2005 Yeah, i heard about the "rthdribl" but never attempted to play with it since my GTO doesn't support HDR. That App puts alot of strain in GTX as well. How does it work, you have a time limit to work around or you can just run it for days or is it like Futuremark series? BTW, nice overclock, i wonder if all GT's hit 500/1150+. Another thing, have you tried that bios tweak to give your GT 1.5v at all? Guest Dynamic Posted December 22, 2005 Posted December 22, 2005 Here is the forum that is most involved in the bios tweak/mod. Why don't you give it a shot, unless you think going from 1.4v stock to 1.5v will up that load temp from 65 to higher? http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=81441
Guest Dynamic Posted December 22, 2005 Posted December 22, 2005 y0 i just noticed man, how in heck are you using a 20 to 24 adaptor for your PSU on this DFI board? That is risky man, you crazy? lol...
DTA2008 Posted December 22, 2005 Posted December 22, 2005 i have had the card up to 520 on the core but it overheats....my buddy has never seen me move that fast when i went go switch of the psu :shake: nothin like your heart skiping a beat when you overheat a 380$ video card. i have never done a voltage mod but 65 deg makes me un ez as is so until i get some water moving over that core i dont think ill try it. one thing that i did find interesting about 7800gt/gtx series is that their fans never turn fully on??!!!?!?!! with riva turner tho you can adjust the speed to whatever you want(have mine on full at all times ). that program that i listed you can run for as long as you want but i would not leve your puter unatended if you have your card oced it might over heat. oh and my antec 550 psu as knobs to adjust the rails i have them all turned up and all my rails read good in speed fan(i know its not completly acuret) but i did just order a ocz powerstream 600 my christmas present to myself:).
