No boot HELLPPP

Recommended Posts

using spec in sig below. Was working fine for about an hour.. i installed windows + drivers etc. The i switched off pc and switched back on...nothing.. all 4 diagnostic leds stay on and everything spins up etc, but no boot or no beep error codes. i didnt change anything on this system... running EVERYTHING at stock..I was just gonna install windows and all drivers and programs and then start overclocking, i didnt even get that far. I reset bios and still the same

I have heard about an issue with experts killing cpus, is this true?? Could this be what happened? dammit

I have had some booting problems with my Expert as well. It was related to the IDE burner. Everytime I hooked up my IDE burner, I would get the boot issue with 4 LEDs and #led blinking back and forth between the two. I removed the burner and the problem is still there. I then cleared the cmos and problem still there. Had to remove one of the sticks of ram and then able to boot back up. This happened about 5 or 6 times, so I gave up on the IDE burner. I already have the Plextor SATA anyway.

BTW, I tried two different Lite On burners on both IDE channels and had the same problems. Also tried a Lite On IDE drive and had the same issues.

I always flash bios on a new board. You have no idea what's what when it arrives.

I flashed to very latest bios and still no joy... it just will not install windows, i have also done a memtest and m-prime and they pass no problem, it is not memory or cpu, i dont know what is causing this

it basically says setup is gonna start windows, all the lights on the keyboard flash and the pc is frozen

i was having a similiar prollem with my first two test xp64 installs, this time i have not installed the nvidia GART or IDE drivers cause i read here they were troublesome, and it has not cropped up yet, third time is the charm i hope

Im not even getting that far, it is just the start of the windows install that freezes after it has installed the basic drivers from the windows cd and is going to reboot to start the proper installation

  • 2 weeks later...

OK got a new mobo, this seemed to work. So the original must have been damaged.

However i am having more issues now.

I ran the pc last night, oc'd to 3.1ghz for 12 hours playing games, no problem there.

I installed a microsoft bluetooth desktop and rebooted and pc wouldnt boot at all, would get into windows or bios and freeze after about 5seconds, only thing i could do was stich off psu from the back to switch off pc. Finally narrowed that down to the bluetooth dongle (aparently ther pc wont boot with the dongle in it), so that is out now

But now pc wont boot STILL... I reset cmos and it boots ok into bios ... i change a few settings (like boot order etc . not ocing, i left everything at stock) and pc just reboots with nothing (4 leds stay on) and cdrom light keeps going on then off with no beep from speaker.

So what i decided to do was take out cmos battery and leave it off for the night ( i am on newest beta bios)

any other suggestions that i can do, what can be causing these problems. Cpu is fine, was tested on another machine... every part is fine as i used it for 12 hours straight and all was well.... getting sick of all the issues at this stage.

also a small question, can I rma the 1st mobo... i had a mach 2 cpu kit on it with silicone sealing around the edges to stop condensation, and there are still visible marks of this.. will dfi accept this if i try to rma??
