Tech-Noir Posted December 21, 2005 Posted December 21, 2005 So, it's that time of the year, and with it comes the urge to upgrade. So, without further ado, this is my proposed rig: Mobo: DFI Lanparty UT nF4-D (The most basic model, but I take it the core of all the different models are pretty much the same, or does the Ultra models have other features besides 3Gb SATA and Dual Gbit LAN?) (This will easily be upgraded to an "Ultra-D" if you think it is worth it.) CPU: AMD Opteron 146 (Very cheap, but will there be compatibility issues (I suppose most retail DFI boards will have up-to-date BIOS that will handle Opterons, although they are not officially supported?) RAM: Kingston 2x512 HyperX BH5 (I have them now, works great on my nForce2 rig, but I read the memory purchase article and they were "Do Not Recommend". Why, and will there be problems?) GFX: A GeForce 6800, in one shape or another. This part I am not decided on yet. PSU: Antec TruePower 380W (May/Will need upgrade?) Audio: M-Audio Revolution 7.1 PCI Comments? Tech-Noir Posted December 21, 2005 Posted December 21, 2005 Thanks for replying. I will simply have to use trial and error on the RAM. I do have a couple of ADATA Vitesta PC4000 that my brother is currently hogging, so if push comes to shove I can use those. Also, I just have to say that this forum is very alive and friendly. Fortunately I have a NF2-system that I have learned the basics of overclocking and such, but it is invaluable to have a friendly envoironment to ask about, and comment on, things. Cheers.
