Are you trying to clear the cmos and such just before or right after you inset the new cpu?

There's an issue, a rare issue, where some cpu's carry on the multiplier of the previous cpu.

I'm sure there could be some other ods and ends, also remember the cpu has the memory controller on chip so it would probbably be in your best interest to try.

Clear cmos, hold insert on a ps2 keyboard, see if this does the trick.

try a supported cpu first

ATM i'm writing from same system but Winchester CPU

edit:before installing i've loaded optimized defaults and the CPU(Opty 148) have same multiplier like Winnie 3500+.I thought that Opteron s.939 are supported CPU's :dog:

Maybe a defective CPU.

All Bios'es are working fine with the Opteron.

I tested a 5xx Bios, a 6xx Bios and currently use the 704-2bta.

There is no problem with the Opteron.

Can you test the Opteron in an other board?
