MoodyDragon Posted December 20, 2005 Posted December 20, 2005 I am wondering what has been going on. Time and again the following sequence seems to happen: I get a BSOD with some problem. Before I know it the problem occurs again and agian... A little time later the Raid 0 array will not boot up. John
wevsspot Posted December 20, 2005 Posted December 20, 2005 Does this same problem occur when you only have one sound card installed? Check to see if you have an IRQ conflict between your sound cards and Nvidia Serial ATA controller.
lowboy Posted December 20, 2005 Posted December 20, 2005 Sounds like a unstable system to me I run raid0 with no problems. Have you tested system for stability?
wevsspot Posted December 20, 2005 Posted December 20, 2005 Raptors+Raid0 = Rocks No problem with my Raid Array either. Definitely system stability issue. Just trying to figure out whether it's hardware, BIOS settings or WindowsOS related.

MoodyDragon Posted December 21, 2005 Posted December 21, 2005 Thank you for your responses. Wevspot, I have a Creative Audigy 2 zs card installed.... I disabled the onboard sound via the bios. And have not had the chaintech in this install...so it could not be the culprit. How do I check for irq conflits? Also how do i change the irqs then? My question is, how come the system (Windows XP Professional) is stable for days or months at end and then starts behaving strangely? This particular system was stable (occasionally running for hours on Prime without a problem) and then, started having BSODs... then became unbootable. Thank you for your responses! Reinvented Posted December 21, 2005 Posted December 21, 2005 It could be a sign of components failing -> more-so hardware... Maybe your PSU?
MoodyDragon Posted December 21, 2005 Posted December 21, 2005 It could be a sign of components failing -> more-so hardware... Maybe your PSU? Possible, though that will not explain why the system is stable for so long after a fresh re-install and then goes bad again..... I think the comment about there being system instability seems to better answer this.... But where? J
wevsspot Posted December 21, 2005 Posted December 21, 2005 I cast my lot with Reinvented. You apparently have one piece of hardware that is fixing to take a royal sized crap on you. My original questions were based on your sig and my assumption that this was a relatively new build. You can see your IRQ assignments by; go to Device Manager/View/Resources by Connection/expand Interupt Request (IRQ)
MoodyDragon Posted December 21, 2005 Posted December 21, 2005 Thanks. Well, I guess I will have to wait for it to fail... Maybe I will run prime for a few days... What is going to fail should fail soon so that I can get on with a reasonably reliable system....
MoodyDragon Posted December 21, 2005 Posted December 21, 2005 If I have to blame one component that is likely failing, then it would be my Ballistix 1gbx2 memory. Lots of people having problems with it. I think I should send mine back. Meanwhile I have installed an OCZ pair and will download a bunch of stuff via p2p just to keep the comp going for a few days.. if something has to fail, it will do so this way.... Thanks for the advice. John
cmay119 Posted December 21, 2005 Posted December 21, 2005 Ram usually is the best place to start, Although, have you manually set all timings in the bios? Or do you have many selections set to auto? If many are set to auto, go manually change them to something of an in between setting for stability and speed and see if that helps resolve the issue. These DFI boards can get finicky when too many options are set to auto it seems. Good luck
