edgerfs Posted December 20, 2005 Posted December 20, 2005 I've got a Opty 146 CABYE 0540 FPBW which does 3ghz with relative ease, prime stable @ 1.47v... however I can not get it higher for love nor money and extra voltage seems no difference. I have tried 3100 all the way to 1.6v and even 3050 is no a go. In each case it fails prime within 20 mins (Small TFT test, the memory one typically lasts quite a lot longer) This strikes me as a kind of odd because normally extra voltage helps, and I have plenty left to play with? I'ts not RAM as im using TCCD on a high divider (133) to rule that out (orange slots) I'ts not BIOS as I've tried a couple I've tried HT 2/3 I've fiddled about with Max Asynch Latency 7/8/9 Can anyone suggest anything I might have missed? Thankyou!
loc.o Posted December 20, 2005 Posted December 20, 2005 Try drive strength 3, data drive 1, read preamble 5.5 (8 on mal i like with this one) or rp 6.5 with mal 9.
Guest laydback Posted December 21, 2005 Posted December 21, 2005 Try lowering your CPC to disabled (2t). We need more info, for example load temps.
edgerfs Posted December 21, 2005 Posted December 21, 2005 Thanks mate, I'll try 2T. What speed does 1T typically crap out on dfi ultra-d nf4 then? Or is it more likely to be the memory controller on the CPU? As for temps: at 1.49 (100% prime stable 3000mhz) load is 44 at 1.55 (not yet stable at 3100mhz) load is
ixtapalapaquetl Posted December 21, 2005 Posted December 21, 2005 If 2T helps, then its a mem controller thang. However, what you are experiencing is not terribly unusual. Some Opterons hit their frequency wall at relatively low voltages. That being said, this wall is temperature dependant. What are your load temps at these higher voltages? Don't see your cooling in your sig, but I bet that's the issue. Sometimes even shaving a few degrees can make all the difference. You might consider a better HS/fan, removing the IHS, or upgrading to water. It seems like your chip has quite a bit more to offer. edgerfs Posted December 21, 2005 Posted December 21, 2005 It's not the memory controller, just failed at 2T as well. Incidentally ixtapalapaquetl my cooling is a Arctic Cooling 64, with another 80mm bolted on the far side (so it has push/pull type air flow). This results in temps of 34 idle 44 load @ 1.49v, or 35 idle 49 load @ 1.57v. Pretty sure this isn't the problem, although naturally it does not leave me much room to go above 1.57ish volts. I've noticed, at least with the optys I've tried. That even though it may seem that you have room for more OC. when you hit a wall thats it. Pretty much nothing you throw at it will help you get a higher cpu clock.
edgerfs Posted December 21, 2005 Posted December 21, 2005 Yer I feared that might be the case, oh well I guess I suppose I should be happy with getting 3ghz at low voltage..... but im not! grr
rahtid Posted December 21, 2005 Posted December 21, 2005 just got my 148 and oc'ing right now my temp are high though 39c idle it this the norm [email protected]
rahtid Posted December 21, 2005 Posted December 21, 2005 i also hear alot of bragging bout high clocks on air . I'm using as5 on the cpu is that ok or just go with the regular stuff. steaming right know lol
Guest tytlyf Posted December 22, 2005 Posted December 22, 2005 Its probably your cpu limit, if you are testing everything, and its not going higher, then you probably are crapped out. I would leave it at 3.0 1.47v very nice
HeskyR32 Posted December 22, 2005 Posted December 22, 2005 only phase seems to break that wall
