Erasmus354 Posted December 20, 2005 Posted December 20, 2005 Ok, I recently flashed my BIOS to the most recent 623-3 version on the DFI site. I used winflash and everything seemed to work fine, I then proceeded to clear the CMOS. After that I loaded the optimized defaults from the BIOS and started to try to boot into windows. When it got to loading windows it immediately restarted, no BSOD, just an immediate restart. I have since then tried to load the settings that I was previously using in the BIOS into this one, but I get the same problem. I am currently running memtest86 and it hasn't errored, I wouldn't expect it to. Would changing the BIOS somehow make my OS not want to boot? The new BIOS seems to have flashed just fine, it just doesn't want to boot windows anymore. Any help / suggestions for further troubleshooting would be appreciated. I really dont want to have to drive 10 hours round trip to go get my WinXP CD and reinstall :/
Sharp Posted December 20, 2005 Posted December 20, 2005 Hello, When you flash to a new BIOS you must never load any CMOS RELOADED profile that was saved on the old BIOS. Also you must clear the CMOS for a few minutes (go for 10mins). Once the CMOS has been cleared you must move the jumper back to the save position. Then when you power the PC manually change all your settings again. In your BIOS change your CPU settings. And memory timings. Erasmus354 Posted December 20, 2005 Posted December 20, 2005 Thanks for the reply, I am not using the CMOS Reloaded feature, in fact I never had anything saved to any of the 4 profiles. I am manually setting all the settings. These are the settings that I was using on 310 BIOS. One thing of note is that I had to set the access mode on my disc drive to LBA because I had problems getting it to boot before, but changing to LBA solved it back then. HDD Boot Priority : 120 first, 320 second (Sorry for not having the categories, I was a bit lazy on this menu when recording my settings :/ ) Advanced Chipset Features ========================= Disabled Disabled Disabled Disabled Enabled Disabled BypassSET Disabled Disabled Genie BIOS Setting ================== > DRAM Configuration FSB Bus Frequency 200 LDT/FSB Frequency Ratio X 4.0 LDT Bus Transfer Width 16 16 CPU/FSB Frequency Ratio X 10.0 PCI eXpress Frequency 100Mhz K8 Cool'n'Quiet Support Disable CPU VID StartUp Value 1.425v CPU VID Control 1.425 V CPU VID Special Control Auto LDT Voltage Control 1.40 V Chip Set Voltage Control 1.60 V DRAM Voltage Control 2.80 V Run MemTest86+ Disabled MAC Lan Auto MAC Media Interface Pin Strap Machine MAC(NV) Address Disabled Internal Phy SATA 1/2 Enabled Internal Phy SATA 3/4 Disabled VIA 1394 Control Disabled MARVELL Giga LAN Control Enabled DRAM Configuration ================== DRAM Frequency Set (Mhz) 200 Command Per Clock (CPC) Enable CAS Latency Control (Tcl) 2.0 RAS# to CAS# delay (Trcd) 02 Min RAS# active time (Tras) 07 Row precharge time (Trp) 02 Row cycle time (Trc) 07 Row refresh cyc time (Trfc) 14 Row to Row delay (Trrd) 05 Write recovery time (Twr) 03 Write to Read delay (Twtr) 02 Read to Write delay (Trwt) 05 Refresh period (Tref) 3120 Write CAS Latency (Twcl) 05 DRAM Bank Interleave Disabled DQS Skew Control Auto DQS Skew Value 0 DRAM Drive Strength Level 6 DRAM Data Drive Strength Level 4 Max Async Latency 7.0 Nano Sec Read Preamble Time 5.0 Nano Sec IdleCycle Limit 256 Cycles Dynamic Counter Disable R/W Queue Bypass 16 X Bypass Max 07 X 32 Byte Granularity Disabled (8 Bursts) I am currently trying mostly those values except I am putting a tad more voltage through the CPU just in case, and I have lowered the main RAM timings to 3-4-4-8 from 2-2-2-7. I am resetting the CMOS again now, and I will try your settings to see if they help at all. Also, my memory just passed its eighth run through of memtest before I stopped it to reset the CMOS.
