No Dual Channel with Corsair TWINX1024-4400C25PT

Recommended Posts

Ok, first post, but lurking for a while trying to figure this out without having to bug you guys. This is similar to several threads, but not exact to any:

I have not been able to get my 2 sticks of 512MB Corsair RAM (see signature) to run in orange slots for dual channel (or yellow slots for that matter). I run them **hold your breath ** in slots 1 and 2 (that's right, one in yellow, one in orange). It won't run any other way. Aren't the gods of RAM going to smite me at any moment?

I have been running my setup for several months, with ZERO stability problems. Issue is, I want to get dual channel performance (and figure out why I'm having to use one orange and one yellow slot).

I will run MEMTEST tonight on single sticks of RAM to make sure they are kosher and will report back.

One thing I do not understand, being a semi-newbie at building pc's, and an absolute OC novice, is, does this RAM work with the PC? Everything is running stock - including the RAM, which is DDR550. The specs for the DFI board on the DFI website, says that ram up to DDR400 will run fine on it. Do I need to adjust the settings on the RAM? Am I on the right track here?

Thanks in advance - and sorry to repeat a common issue.

Hmm, ok, did the MEMTEST. One chip has errors. One is error free (overnight).

Dang, now what? Memory was bought in July, but it has been doing this since I bought it. It is from NewEgg or ZipZoomFly. Will they let me swap it? [Never mind on this one - answered my own question:

Corsair's memory modules, SD, and CF Flash Memory cards all carry a lifetime warranty. Flash USB (FLASH VOYAGER) products have a warranty for the expected normal life of the product (10 years), and COOL Water Cooling products carry a one year warranty. That means Corsair products are guaranteed to operate, as specified by their datasheet, and in the operating environment for which they were intended, for the life of the product or the extent of the warranty.

My other question still stands- were the memory good, would I still need to change settings/timings to get it to work properly?

Final question - if I'm upgrading to 2x1GB for this setup, can I get some recommendations from you happy RAM owners out there? I am focusing on gaming performance (BF2, etc).

Thanks for your input....

specifically post #4

read the red info in bold though:

If you cannot get your modules from Corsair to work, I suggest you contact Corsair, or their House of Help forums as there isn't much we can do for you if your Corsair memory doesn't work with the settings we provide you

A_G #3 post - very nice, thanks for the post reference to my specific RAM. I am in the process of doing the RMA to Corsair - House of Help is on it. The MEMTEST errors are specific to one stick, so both are going back.

Thanks for your quick response and for all the work you've done here. Hope you get paid to do this.

Hmmm what test in memtest were the errors at ?

MSMOLT #4 post - Re MEMTEST errors. I'm re-running to find out where it failed. Question - is MEMTEST86 a different product than MEMTEST?

It only seems to fail when the "bad" stick is in the orange slot. Right now, bad is in yellow #1, good in orange #2, no MEMTEST errors (well, since I've been typing this - 152% coverage). I'm running both right now to see if I can stumble across it.

To run simple default speeds on those modules, I have to run them at 2.8V. That's what Corsair suggests also. If you have a bad one, contact Corsair and make them replace them. Lifetime warranty does just that.

Infinity #5 post - I am running the stock settings. SmartGuardian says DRAM voltage at 2.7v, so it is not at 2.8v. Also, I see that I have to up my FSB to 275mHz to get DDR550 out of it. I suppose A_G's post above will assist in my figuring that part out. All this power sitting right here at my fingertips, and I just haven't tapped it! Exciting, even for an aging geek.

Dude, what are you doing in the NL? That's a long way from home.

If you picked both of them up as a TwinX set, you will need to send both modules back

AgeGoober #6 post - Nice Avatar (A_G, you are quite creative with those) -

I will be returning both. Hmmm, hope they will send me two sticks in advance of my sending my RAM off to them. Hard to run a rig these days w/ no RAM. May be time to get those 2x1GB sticks - suggestions anyone?

I am having the exact same problem with my two sticks of corsair. I was running them in slot 1 and 2 as well (yellow and orange) When I try just one in the first orange slot it runs fine, but when I put both of them in the orange slot my system hangs right before the memory timings are to be displayed. Is different ram the solution?

Download MEMTEST & test your sticks one at a time in the orange slot. I had errors in one stick, and corsair is taking them back for exchange. They do have a lifetime warranty.
