Trying to add another HDD.

Recommended Posts

I bought a Western Digital 250 GB Serial ATA Hard Drive which I'm trying to add seperate from my current RAID-0 setup it's hooked up to sata port 3, it does not seem to be detected by the install cd that came with it or windows. It seems that the bios knows it's there but when I auto detect for HDD presence in sata port 3, it finds it but does not stay there when I save the bios settings so I don't know if that means anything..

If you're having trouble with Sata port 3, can you try port 4? Or are you getting the same results? You could try another SATA cable as the SATA cables are a little "weak" and they can easily break in comparison to an IDE Ribbon or Round cable. Is the BIOS seeing the drive as a seperate device or is it trying to implement it into the RAID 0?

Your additional drive cannot be added to a raid 0 after the array has been constructed. However it can be used as an additional storage device thru windows. Rt. click my computer Lt. click manage and storage and disk management. The drive should be listed if not then windows doesn't recognize the device. If listed it can be formatted and used as an additional storage device. I'm assuming you have sata 3/4 enabled in bios under genie bios settings and not as a raid device in IDE raid options.
