Which Thermalright heatsink?

Recommended Posts

Xp-120 is the best rated on most reviews (+5C at least) with a good 120mm fan... it's little more $$ but who cares.. I will go WC soon.. but fror now i stick to the best air cooling available ;)

I have the XP120, the CNPS9500 too. Both are excellent and the 9500 just beats the 120, at least on my three systems that I have built. The issue with the 120 is that it hovers above the memory sticks if you use the orange slots and a bit of difficult to remove the rams. I had to modify the 120 a bit to acccomodate my TwinXLPro with the LED's. This is where the Zalman really beats the xp120, it is when I compared them with my naked X2, removed hsf. The Zalman idles at 36 with the Hawaiian sun heating up my room and never above 48 when running prime for 8+ hrs. Although I tried to seat the xp120 without the hsf, it would not sit properly on the cpu core and did not push the issue for fear of breaking it.

I use the Zalman. I tried the SI-120 but found the Zalman more effecient. ( I wish I had recorded the differences). If you have a rear case fan aligned w/ the Zalman it will better the 120's. It also aids in exhausting the heat from the memory on an Expert board.
