Need recommendation for my first build . . .

First time poster with question for my very first build project.

Hello to the board! I have been quietly researching my list of components for my first pc build over the past 2 months. As you can see from my sig, I am long over-do for a new puter. This Gateway has served me admirably for 7 years now and it's time to retire her. I have been hitting the forums nightly and am ready to proceed. Here's what I have come up with:

SILVERSTONE TJ-03

PC Power & Cooling 510 SLI-PFC

AMD Athlon 64 4000+

2GB (2x1GB) OCZ DDR400 (PC 3200) 2-3-2-5 2.6v

eVGA Geforce 7800GTX

Plextor PX-716SA

ASUS Black 16X DVD-ROM

Seagate Barracuda 7200.8 250GB

Creative X-Fi Extreme Music

Windows XP Pro SP2

Initially, I had settled on the ABIT AN8 Ultra for my new mobo. The only other board I would consider is the DFI LANPARTY UT nF4 Ultr. I am clueless to over-clocking but am learning quickly. I'm looking for rock-solid stability right out of the box and you can't help but read the ton of great reviews about DFI products. Am I really better off doing my first build with another brand? Does DFI make a good board which runs stable right out of the box? I need this PC for both work & personal enjoyment (I like a lot of online games) - - - but the work side pays the bills and I can't afford seperate rigs at this point. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Also, if you see any compatibility issues in these parts, please let me know. Thanks in advance!

You're new system will be like entering a new millenium!

You seem to be concerned about eleminating risks. As I can understand you're looking at a board just like mine, and I would say that it is a board of excellent stability. It has been out on the market for a while now, so problems that always become obvious after a time of testing are solved. The layout is good, and if following the manual to set all jumpers right, and take good use of advices at this forum, you'll have a very good system for whatever purpose of use.

You seem to have a good and balanced system in mind (and certainly powerful!). I don't have any experience what concernes the PSU, but have just heard good opinions (others might have a better input on that).

The choise is yours, but I would recommend you to give the mobo a try. You wont be dissapointed!

Thanks for the response - like a new millenium? Very nice to hear. Can't wait. I believe I'm going to give the DFI a try. If I can't get it running correctly, I'll just replace it. That way, down the road I'll be able to OC for performance BEFORE I upgrade and maybe save myself some cash.

Ciao!
