idunno1987 Posted December 17, 2005 Posted December 17, 2005 i was an nvidia fanboy ay heart (still am)...but depends what card u are getting....i originally had a 6600 ...but moved to this x800gto2 ..which can do better at stock..and be overclocked...and unlocked to 16 pieps...although most nvidia card support the new 3.0 shaders (which wont make much difference as it is....)but i love nvidia, but i love my ati...so i love both...eitehr or will do u well (but if ur going mid range...6600gt or x800xl....take ur pick)
Gary_Johnston Posted December 17, 2005 Posted December 17, 2005 The 6600GT isn't the card to compare to the X800XL, that'd be the 6800GT. Either one would do you well enough, I'd go for a 7800GT if I were to buy one right this moment though. One can be had for $280 from a thread i saw elsewhere on this site. ICON57 Posted December 17, 2005 Posted December 17, 2005 after 5 years of using ati, i made the switch...Nvidia seems to have the lead these days...imho i would go for a 7800 gtx if you can afford the 500 bucks or so. on a single card i was able to score 9100 in 3dmark05. my card comes clocked at 460/1300 i have oc'ed it to 519/1330..with no probs

Angry_Games Posted December 17, 2005 Posted December 17, 2005 i really won't beleive the 9100...more like 8100 or 7100 with ur sig 9100 is no problem for the setup and overclock he has...I can hit 8900 with ease with a 2700Mhz cpu + 7800GTX myself right now, for me, the 7800GT is the best bang for the buck...20 pipelines, good fast RAM...its the best card for the money
DonS1mpson Posted December 17, 2005 Posted December 17, 2005 Sorry, but I think that’s a silly question. ATi or NVIDIA? Point less! 6600GT or X800GT? X1800XT or 7800GTX? Much more relevant It really dpeneds on your budget. If you mean who has the better drivers/tech support, I'd say NVIDIA, but I'm getting a ATi because it is better than the NVIDIA card in my price range (6800GT)

I mean you shouldn't ask a question that is sort of vague. If you want to know who has the best card in a certain category, for example mid range, then ask that question. You are asking for buying advice, but you haven't even mentioned a budget. I would advise against simply asking “whose best?” because this has been done to death just like AMD Vs Intel and Microsoft Vs Linux and will almost certainly ends in Fan boy Vs Fan boy flaming. Angry_Games Posted December 17, 2005 Posted December 17, 2005 keep this in mind.... There is no BEST there is only BEST FOR YOU regardless of benchmarks you might see, regardless of how many users say this or that, regardless of anything...there is no BEST there is only BEST FOR YOU everyone's opinion of what is best is simply that...THEIR OPINION if someone tries to state something is the BEST as fact, you can begin to ignore them immediately for not being intelligent enough to state it as their OPINION. I try to get everyone to understand this as it is very important lesson...there is no BEST...only what is BEST FOR/TO YOU.
