DFI NF4 Expert Speed

Recommended Posts

Hey guys. How much faster is the NF4 or NF4-Expert with dual video cards over the Ultra-D? Or can anyone direct me to a review showing the difference in speed with these two DFI boards? Thanks. :)

There is no technical reason for the 3D speed to come out differently.

Possibly a better overclock on the Expert due to better power distribution, but that would be on a card-by-card basis and it would be unlikely given that most of the power for the cards doesn't come through the mainbooard.

If you successfully modded the Ultra-D to SLI there shouldn't be much difference. I don't know where you are (can you fiill in your location in the profile?), but U.S. non-SLI boards sometimes have a layer of Expoxy over the modding area, so buying an Ultra-D when you know you want to SLI can be risky. No such problem in Europe, though.

there's no difference between any of the Lanparty NF4 motherboards...they are all using the same Nvidia NF4 chipset...an SLI or modded-to-SLI Nvidia NF4 chipset performs the same regardless of board...only your clock speeds make a difference.

look at the top of this section for mod info

the only reason I have found to have SLI or Crossfire is for running high resolutions like 1600x1200 with AA and AF fully enabled and every graphics option maximized

I only need a single 7800GT or 7800GTX (i have one of each) to play 1280x1024 with AA/AF enabled and all the options turned all the way up

I am glad I got you online now. Just a general question. When I look at the amd cpu's they seem to be a lot slower megahertz than the Intel cpu's. Does this mean that they are a lot slower. Thanks :)

no

AMD cpu's are superior in single-thread applications even at much lower mhz speeds (especially gaming!) and the dual-core AMD cpu's are superior to P4's at much higher speeds also for most things (just about everything these days actually)

Intel still rates their cpu's on a Mhz scale...AMD stopped doing that because their cpu is so efficient that it can do the same workload as a 3.8Ghz P4 at only 2.2Ghz with half the cache (3800+ Venice for example). Thats pretty much what the rating on an AMD cpu means...

3200+ supposed to mean it can match a 3.2Ghz P4 cpu

4000+ would mean it would be equivalent to a 4Ghz P4 if such a P4 existed lol

the AMD ratings are bit funny in the sense that you really have to begin to understand actual Mhz speeds and cache sizes and compare them to other cpu's of the same type (Athlon64) to get an idea of what they can do...and then again, most of us do not run stock speeds on A64's...which is why you and me and others are here... ;)

here's an outdated *but not by much* chart of the A64 cpu tables:

http://www.angrygames.com/AMD_CPU/AMD_64/AMD_64.htm

give those some reading over a bit

3200+ Venice (512k L2 cache) is best bang for the buck in my opinion (I've never had one that wouldn't do 2600Mhz easily...which is the stock speed of an $810 FX-55 cpu)

plenty of cpu's to choose from...dont let their actual mhz lull you into thinking they are not as good as P4's
