light Posted December 17, 2005 Posted December 17, 2005 Hi all, i just bought this very nice board yesterday thinking that i would be up and running nicely, (my first dfi board) entering bios setup for the first time i was a bit confused with quite a few settings there...so i tried to put everything at default and standard clock speeds, and after the reboot, have set the pc to boot from cdrom with winxp sp2 inside the cdrom, it would detect the boot cd, i can hear the cd spinning up and being read from, there the screen just goes black and it stays there. Here are some of my settings which i have set in the Bios: starting from Advanced chipset features: errata 94: disabled (what is this?) Errata 123: Auto: (What is this?) boatasiaus Posted December 17, 2005 Posted December 17, 2005 First of all, you need to follow the build guide here http://www.dfi-street.com/forum/showthread.php?t=6615 . Then when the rig is up and runnng, read the overclocking guide here http://www.dfi-street.com/forum/showthread.php?t=20823 Good luck
light Posted December 17, 2005 Posted December 17, 2005 I re-installed the original bios (2005/11/02) i followed the build guide, and i get the exact same thing, a black screen (monitor is not off though) the black screen comes after post and the rectangular window which shows slots taken up by hardware and irq's...it says 'boot cd' it read the windows cd, and there the screen goes black and stays like that. i have to switch off the pc. WHAT IS THISSSSSSSS  i even tried one stick of ram on dimm1. always the black screen coming up. note: i have tried both combinations: dimm 1&3, and dimm 2&4 and get black screen on both. StephenC Posted December 17, 2005 Posted December 17, 2005 Ok, Check your CD. Also do you have access to another CD/DVD drive?

StephenC Posted December 17, 2005 Posted December 17, 2005 Have you run memtest on your RAM?
light Posted December 17, 2005 Posted December 17, 2005 yes, sometimes during the test, it would freeze, some other times i would get a big list of red listings underneath and then it would freeze..is this a bad memory stick or settings in the bios? repoman Posted December 17, 2005 Posted December 17, 2005 Run memtest with each stick individually. If one fails and the other doesn't, then you have one bad stick.. if they both fail it's most likely a BIOS setting Let us know so we can give you some settings to change if they both fail. Guest Ryn Posted December 17, 2005 Posted December 17, 2005 yes, sometimes during the test, it would freeze, some other times i would get a big list of red listings underneath and then it would freeze..is this a bad memory stick or settings in the bios? those red list are memory errors. try changing your ram on different slots and if it still has errors you have no choice but to replace them. StephenC Posted December 17, 2005 Posted December 17, 2005 Do as repoman said.......If you are not able to run memtest with zero errors, then don't even think about installing your OS.
