dorath Posted December 17, 2005 Posted December 17, 2005 Setup is starting Windows. That's as far as Windows setup goes, for both 32 and 64 bit. Getting past that portion of textmode setup is driving me crazy. I've used F6, I've integrated the SATA drivers, I've tried different RAM, a different video card, different optical drives, different SATA slots, unhooking just about everything from the motherboard, different IDE channels, slave instead of master, and IDE HDDs. Once it got past Setup is starting Windows, but ntfs.sys bugchecked while formatting and once again I can't get past that point. To begin at the beginning: I bought the parts for two nearly identical systems (the other has OCZ RAM) as a gift for my fiance and myself. I had the parts shipped to work, so I could build it in secret and surprise her. The original plan was to recycle the optical drives from our existing systems, so for installation I used a Toshiba DVD drive. Tried to anyway. No matter what I tried I always got stuck at the same place, and on both machines. Then I changed to a Sony DVD/CDRW. Setup went flawlessly. It had to have been the Toshiba DVD drive. I took the systems home, and she loved it! Then tonight she got hit by some virus. Symantec was able to quarentine, but not clean the files. Unfortunately, some were rather necessary and the system was unusable. So I figured I'd just reinstall using an optical drive from one of our old systems: but I was wrong. The Plextor CD/RW doesn't work, neither does the Hitachi DVD, and the Pioneer DVDR (a newer drive than the others) doesn't work either. The Plextor and the Pioneer have been used to sucessfully install Windows on other machines in the past. I'm at a complete loss. Any suggestions would be most welcome. However, I did manage to stumble upon a post about setting the CPC to disabled and that appears to have done the trick. The machine is now in GUI mode setup, I'll post an update later. Murphy must be laughing.

dorath Posted December 23, 2005 Posted December 23, 2005 hey man, i am having this EXACT same problem quick question.. what is CPC (excuse my ignorance) I believe it's Cycles Per Clock. I'm in a (Christmas shopping) rush and not at home, so my appologies for the quick and dirty reply. If you try searching these forums for CPC you'll probably find better directions! When I get some free time I'll post a link. Go into the GENIE BIOS settings menu, then the RAM settings menu, Cycles Per Clock is a few down from the top.
