benplanet Posted December 16, 2005 Posted December 16, 2005 3500+ venice core is the puppy you looking for... and with the money left get yourself a new fan or something http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16819103603 ships FREE i think. if you have an extra 20 bucks i suggest you get the opteron you were talking about: 229 + ship (OEM NO HS) >> http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16819103595 235+ ship (RETAIL) >> http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16819103596 edit: forgot to answer your question, the mem you got (2 x 512MB OCZ PC4000) will work like a charm with either one good luck,
dæmon Posted December 16, 2005 Posted December 16, 2005 I have heard the opteron is a better overclocker (not to mention it has 1mb cache and opterons are more badass)..also i found it at monarch for $207 http://www.monarchcomputer.com/Merchant2/m...pricewatch&NR=
My Ugly PC Posted December 16, 2005 Posted December 16, 2005 You will want better cooling with an Opteron. Trust me, I got two. Your ram should work fine. My CH-5s act phenominally well with both my Opterons. (not sure if your on Winbond UTT CH-5 or BH-5) Just never use your cpu at stock vcore when the ram is over 3.3v(conservative estimate). This according to a thread by an OCZ employee. The voltage can overflow the diodes in your cpu and ruin your memory controller. Degrade if not eventually destroy. http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=79509
