nellycappello Posted December 15, 2005 Posted December 15, 2005 My friend gave me over an old PC to try and sort out. Its a 750 mhz athlon,256mb pc100 ram, and a huge 10 gig HDD lol Anyway upon installing windows it goes through everything fine and then the pc reboots itself but instead of rebooting and continuing the windows installation, the PC reads the CD again and boots back into the CD.this happens everytime  I have gone into the Bios and set the IDE first and CD second. I have never come accross this problem before, anyone got any ideas please
nitemareglitch Posted December 15, 2005 Posted December 15, 2005 How old is your install disk? SP1 2 pre-sp1?
nellycappello Posted December 15, 2005 Posted December 15, 2005 it's pre SP2...will that make a difference?
nitemareglitch Posted December 15, 2005 Posted December 15, 2005 Well, is it SP1? Or pre that too? What kinda disk are you using? If it is pre sp1 sometimes you have to set your clock back for the instalation to work right, since those disks have pseudo built in lifecycles. On my installs (using pre sp1 win xp pro corp , got it at my job) I have to roll my clock back to do an install.
ICON57 Posted December 15, 2005 Posted December 15, 2005 i had the same problem a while back, and the suggestion that was made to me was this (however i didnt get to try it) after windows reboots, as it is supposed to do, go back into bios, and set boot order back to boot from hd. see if this works. I just sorted it..i turned on the PC went into the bios to check the clock and i noticed only the DVD drive was showing up there. There was an option F3 to refresh HDD...i done that and now it is installing correctly. Thanks for your input

Always hard to give advice when you are not in front of a machine. Just remember if you are slapping Sp1 then 2 on this beast , roll the clock back before SP1 instalation, cause if not, it will freak out on yah. Or at lease mine does, but, I install from a Windows Supplied SP1 upgrade CD.
nellycappello Posted December 15, 2005 Posted December 15, 2005 I'm sure the cd has SP1 on it...what do you roll the clock back to?
nitemareglitch Posted December 15, 2005 Posted December 15, 2005 I'm sure the cd has SP1 on it...what do you roll the clock back to? To 04. But, I think thats cause my SP1 disk will not install on newer dates. You may be fine.
