AthlonAlien Posted December 7, 2005 Posted December 7, 2005 Both are rated for 250MHz 3-3-2-8... The Mushkin's voltage is rated for 2.6-2.9V. I am really wanteing to hit 250MHz 2.5-3-2-7... anyone have any experience with the Mushkin XP's? -Thanks

Razorback Posted December 8, 2005 Posted December 8, 2005 When I was deciding which mushkin RAM to purchase I originally had decided upon REDLINE because of its capabilities but instead I purchased the XP4000 eXtreme performance instead because it will do what ' I ' wanted it to do ( mild OC easily with air cooling ) and I DIDN'T need to worry about higher voltage and active cooling requirements of of the REDLINE line. ExtraPickles Posted December 8, 2005 Posted December 8, 2005 I have 2 2x1GB kits of XP4000 Redline bought within 2 weeks of each other and they're like totally different animals. One set does 2.5-3-2 from 250-260 and 3-3-2 up to 290 or so at 2.8v. The other set won't do 2.5 anywhere close to 250 and will barely go past 260 at SPD. As with most memory it seems, it's a crapshoot. -pickles
mikemcc Posted December 8, 2005 Posted December 8, 2005 Keep in mind that the *new* Redlines are very different from the old ones. The new ones are based on the same Infineon CE-6 ICs as the OCZ EB and seem to work best on voltages under 2.9v, and most do best at 2.7v. Almost no one gets higher OC with more juice. With the old Redlines, the more juice you could pour in, the better. I considered getting these sticks at the end of November when they were $317 direct from Mushkin and you got a 10% discount if you typed "memory" in the coupon box. But I hesitated because these sticks are only going to give you like a 3%-4% improvement over memory that is $70 cheaper. I had the money, but I just couldn't justify throwing away $70 for that small difference in performance. Then, at the beginning of December, the Redlines went up to $330 and Mushkin did away with the discount. That easily made the decision for me since now the price difference between the Redlines and the very nice g-Skill HZ kits was +$100. I got the g-Skills and I could not be happier. You can find info about the Mushkins here: http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showth...72&page=1&pp=25 (But be careful because some people here get confused between the old Redline and the completely revised Redline.) For more info on the g-Skill HZ 2gb kit: http://xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=75199&pp=25 Don't get me wrong -- the Redlines seem like really good memory. But the price difference is pretty large. I used the $100 saved to take my wife out to eat and that got her a little less POd over all the money I have been spending on computer parts lately. Believe me, that was money well spent!!

BlackDragon24 Posted December 8, 2005 Posted December 8, 2005 I just got the g.skill pc4000 kit yesterday, plugged it in with the settings from the g.skill site...running great now. Had it up to 260 memtest stable on the same timings. Haven't really played with it yet but it certainly smoothed out my gameplay in FEAR and COD2. I highly recommend the kit...some people here have gotten it tp to 290ish with the right settings, and its only $225 which is at least 60 less than anything from OCZ. Dont get me wrong, I love OCZ, but for the price this stuff rocks.
