AMD Opteron 148 OR AMD 64 3700+

Recommended Posts

Should i buy an Opteron 148 for $217 (OEM)

http://www.monarchcomputer.com/Merchant2/m...uct_Code=120333

or a 3700 for $233 with free shipping @ NE

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16819103539

I will be doing plenty of gaming, and just maybe some OCing from time to time. Any reason why the Opteron is BETTER than the 3700 (from what i hear). What is your experience wit heitehr procs?

Please help me decide which one i should buy. I will be placing my order today or tomorrow ;p

Thank you!!

stepping are the codes after the model number. Theres a 5 letter code and then a 4 digit week code which says what year and week the chip was produced. Usually the early weeks are the best. If you buy it from Newegg you have no way of telling until you get it. Each stepping is a batch and varies slightly, from batch to batch.

Best steppings for OC'ing in order:

1. CABNE 05xx (excluding 0540)

2. CABYE 0540

3, CABNE 0540 / CABYE 05xx (excluding 0540)

4. CAB2E 05xx

5. CABGE 05xx

my opinion would be to get the opteron 148 from newegg, even if you dont know the stepping.

I say opteron. I am a fan. I think that most of the slower overclocks are due from poeple not haveing the paticants to do good burn ins and all the little tricks to push out the few extra mhz.

I belive that the 2e's are better than the ne's. The only ne's that were any better than the other steppings were the early 144's i think 528-530 any thing after that was just as good as the 2e/ye from the benchs I have seen. I would take a 2e 148 over a ne any day if it was later than 530.
