AMD X2 Overclocking Discussion Thread

That's the eternal question - "safe" voltage" - the engineerting tolerance approach is a logical one to take, and the one I used for my Winchester- i.e. allow yourself 10% over stock. 1.5 became 1.65v

So since stock on an X2 is 1.3-1.35 that gives 1.485 a conservtive's maximum voltage; where the risks would be quite small (probably).

I 've found that once the processor becomes voltage limited; the performance benefit of upping voltage becomes quite small. So 1.45v seems to be the compromise spot for me- where upping voltages has minimal overclocking benefit. It gives me a modest 2650mhz.

3 things kill chips

Temperature

Voltage.

Frequency

If you give a chip all 3 it'll fry quickly. Minimising any value will maximise the life of your chip. Finding the compromise point that you are happy with is one of the key aspects of overclocking. After all - nobody's owned an X2 for 2 years; so we can't predict accurately how our actions now will affect the chips in the longer term.
