I think I may upgrade my pc...here is what I was thinking....keep in mind I just surf and don't game...the games I do play work fine on my current card...but...

Cpu: A64 3700+ sandiego

Board: NF4 Ultra-D

V/C: 6600gt

everything else the same....Cost to me $400.00

What do you think?

The most I do with my pc now is rip&burn dvd's....I can do a complete movie in 6-8minutes start to finish....I don't know if i'd gain much here...

Personally I don't think it would be worth it, but I guess it depends on what the $400 dollars means to you. If you can do your main task in 6-8 minutes, I think by doing this upgrade isn't going to gain much. I think ripping and burning dvd's is first dependant on the speed (and cache) of the dvd drive, second on read speed (and cache) of the original drive (whether it's your hard drive or another dvd drive), and then by ram, so maybe $100 for a faster (and more cache) dvd drive or another gig of ram would probably have the same (very small) increase. And these 2 gigs won't go to waste when you do decide to go NF4. Even if you bought the 3700+, NF4, vc, and another gig of ram, you would probably only save less than a minute, but maybe someone with that type of setup, and burns dvd's could chime in.

Bus speed seems to play an important role on burning rates...theoretically it shouldn't but it does...

I got more performance increase by upping the bus 10fsb than upping the ram to 1gig...

I was sure that if you had a 16x's burner it would only burn at a certain speed...even when burning at 16x's different bus speed will lesson burning times...

For instance my rig is still run at the specs listed...I can rip and burn a full lenght dvd in 6-8minutes start to finish...done...

My other rig has the same opticals but runs a 266fsb (vs. a 420fsb) every thing else the same it takes anywhere from 20-30 minutes or more....big diff..

Go here, they have GUIDES and the SOFTWARE to download.

http://www.afterdawn.com/

If you're just backing up your movies then use the software and techniques recommended in the DVDShrink guide, all the software is free as well (you download the trial version of NERO but that's all you need by DVDShrink just uses the NERO burning engine so no need to upgrade). Shrink is good to about 75% compression, after that, you might want to move up to DVDRebuilder and CCE, but that costs a few bucks (less than $100) and takes longer, but you get very good quality.
