lol, do I dare post a CORSAIR issue?

Recommended Posts

having issues with this mem. I've been reading the forums here for a while... occasional general protection faults when playing UT2004, locks up, or freezes. Windows XP runs stable though.

suggestions?

I went to house of help and this is what I was suggested:

"Contact DFI or have a look around at their forums. There are some beta bios' floating around that are reputed to solve this issue. Apparently, some of the bios' work better with specific types of memory so see if you can get the one tailored for the Corsair. It seems to be a DFI bios issue but they are working it out."

I'm about ready to send this memory back.

I wasn't plannning on overclocking, but now I feel like buying OCZ or crucial.

best 2x 1GB combo around anyone? I wouldn't mind overclocking, but then I'd probably need better cooling, so I won't for now.

any help is appreciated

seriously, I'm in the process of getting 2x1Gig as well, I want to get fat MHz, but also starting to think that maybe tighter timmings would help get more fps than wider bandwidth would, just an assumption for now, it's a tough call, but I might go with OCZ since they make stuff with gaming in mind.

Memory timings play almost no role in gaming performance. CPU and GPU are what make all the difference.

I just ordered the Crucial Ballistix 2 x 1GB sticks. They've been running right around DDR600 speeds at 3-3-3-8 settings. Hopefully the sticks i get will do close to that. I'll let you know when I get it running friday.

this is odd, becauseI gained 1000 marks with my old rig in 3dmark2001se, and it seems all that was done(its a turbo setting in asus bios...) was tighten the timmings from default to 2-2-2-5

I'm running my Corsair XMS3200XLPRO's at 240 Mhz at 2.5-3-3-6 (8 x 330 w/150 (3/04) divider). I have Memtested successfully at 250 Mhz as well at the same timings. I have had no issues with the Corsair mem and the board. The value memory is another story...

Me too, with my P4 3.4, and 6600gt OC, I would get 19000-19500 3d2001se, with the memory on default timings, without changing a single thing, except changing the memory from 4-4-4-12 to 3-3-3-8 I went to about 20500-21000.

Also in CS:source stress test, I went from:

119fps stock settings 4-4-4-12

to

127 on 3-3-3-8

The memory was kingston hyperX 675 DDR2

My new rig, un tweeked got a 165ish before I had the X2 drivers installed, maybe I can pull off 200 in a few more days.
