Lower Bandwith with lower CPU frequency?

Recommended Posts

Hi!

I did read the ocing guides for A64, but I couldn't get the answer to this question:

Why is the Memory Bandwith lower if the cpu multiplier is lower?

for example - at 10 x 250 I get about 6800 in SiSoft Sandra, and with 6x 250 I only get around 5800...

thanks for answers!

btw, for testing RAM modules in single mode, does the CPU frequency matter? or am I able to set the CPU Multiplier to 7x for 275Mhz RAM frequency? does that affect testing the stability of my RAM modules?

You aren't sending as much data through the memory at 6 X 250 as 10 X 250

Too answer your second question, You can get a basic idea with a low multi but there can still be mem errors when you bring the multi back up.

Since you shovel data through the CPU to measure memory bandwidth such a test is never independent of CPU speed.

BTW, this is probably the single benchmark that is most useless for real-world application performance there is.
