4 leds are lit

hi guys,

my pc doesnt boot up and it was fine the day before.

The monitor does not shows anything( I have tried using my display on other pc and it is working) but the video card led was on and the fan spins.

I have tried clearing the cmos, unplug everthing and the problem is still there.

My psu is still running(the fan and leds).

At the moment I have no idea what is the problem. Also I realised i have been putting the psu fan to the minimum.

Is it the psu or the vid card? i am hoping it is the power supply...but im still clueless.

I would try to eliminate your VGA card, could you possibly lend of a friend / relative or buy a dirt cheap PCI VGA card?

Here is what each of the LEDs mean

System startup 4 led’s on, no CPU detected

CPU is detected 3 led’s on, memory not working

DRAM is detected 2 led’s on, VGA not working

VGA is detected 1 led on, unable to load OS

 

I would take out the CPU and inspect it for any signs of damage.

 

When you cleared teh CMOS did you do it like this?

Here is the 'official' DFI way of clearing the CMOS:

 

1. pull power

2. pull battery

3. clear cmos jumper for minimum of 30-60 seconds

4. replace cmos jumper to normal position

5. replace battery

6. replace power

7. boot to bios and load optimized defaults

8. save and exit

9. boot back to bios and now you can change settings to your liking.

 

Another thing you could try is clear the cmos.. Then before you press the power button to turn your rig on.. Hold the INSERT key and then press the power button while you are still holding down the INSERT key.. If it boots and you see the post screen then let go of the INSERT key and press delete to see if you get into bios..

i inspected cpu and no visible damage. im going to local store to get power supply and cheap vid card. i cant get to the post

make sure that you have the 4 Pin connector, the one that is above the 24 Pin one. When you don't have that connected, you will get 4 LEDs.

Here is the way to read the Diagnostic LEDs.

 

4 LEDs on = Power applied

3 LEDs on = CPU has been detected OK

2 LEDs on = RAM has been detected OK

1 LED on = VGA has been detected OK

0 LEDs on = System has booted to the Operating System.

 

As long as you are in the BIOS including running memtest from the BIOS option, there will be one LED on.

Long form Clear CMOS

------

The proper Clear CMOS recovery from a "no boot" condition. Not to be confused with a Normal CMOS Clear.

 

Make sure your sig is up to date with all of the required information. This will assist the forum members with your issue.

 

You can not use a USB keyboard for this procedure. You must use a PS2 keyboard.

 

You will need your manual to find the jumpers that must be changed.

 

If you skip or miss any step you must start again since the results will not be valid.

Remove power from the rig by pulling the plug or switching the PSU off.

 

Move the PC Speaker jumper to the ON position.

 

Remove the Battery.

 

Move the CMOS jumper to CLEAR.

 

Press the Start Button on the case or motherboard to drain the capacitors.

 

You may leave the board in this condition for as long as it takes to clear the CMOS. If a short 30 second clear or a 15 minute clear doesn't work, try an 8 hour clear.

 

Plug in a PS2 Keyboard.

 

Put one stick of RAM in the top orange slot marked DIMM2.

 

Move the CMOS jumper to Normal.

 

Replace the Battery.

 

Press and hold the Insert Key on the Keyboard.

 

Apply power to the rig by plugging the power in or using the switch on the PSU.

 

Press the Start Button to power the rig up.

 

When you hear the BEEP, release the Insert Key and press the Delete Key on the Keyboard.

 

Once you enter the BIOS set the DATE and TIME then Load Optimized Defaults.

 

Save and Exit.

 

Enter the BIOS again and set it up the way you want for your particular rig.

 

NEVER load any saved CMOS settings from CMOS Reloaded once you have a new BIOS installed.

i got enermax eg565p-ve FMA (24pin:20+4P) and i couldnt find the connector for the 4 plugs for the mobo. should i be fine?

the thermal take has every plugs.
