tameone Posted November 8, 2005 Posted November 8, 2005 so I have been running Quake4 in 1024x768 in high detail, no AA, and I see slowdown when there's lots of lighting. I turn on AA, even 2x, and I see a lot of slowdown when I turn.. fps drop to 30-45. Then I loaded farcry. put everything on very high detail in 1024x768 with 2x filtering, no AA, and it's not completely smooth, especially in in the wide open areas, and as you know, there's a lot of them. I am wondering if I should be seeing these slowdowns. My system is in the sig, using nvidia drivers 81.85. my ram is running at 200mhz, 3-3-7-3. I ran aquamark and got GFX: 11,736 CPU: 10,108, overall: 74,264. I would run 3dmark, but if you check out my last thread, I can't seem to DL it. Protagonist. Posted November 8, 2005 Posted November 8, 2005 Maybe download the trial of windows 64bit edition and then download the 64bit upgrade for far cry. See if it performs any better on 64bit (it should).
Onsightsmith Posted November 8, 2005 Posted November 8, 2005 I have seen this prob before on other boards (I know, me bad, I look at other forums). Some have had luck with cleaning out the vid driver and reinstalling the drivers. Its worth a try...... Use Detonator destroyer to clean vid drivers And reinstall latest Nvidia drivers Hope this helps
Ballistix Posted November 8, 2005 Posted November 8, 2005 Damn it this crap scares me... Can you run other games (like half-life 2) fine or is it only Far Cry?
tameone Posted November 8, 2005 Posted November 8, 2005 Quake4 is smooth for the most part at high detail. I only see slowdown in heavy machine gun fights, and parts of SP with extreme lighting. although thats with AA completely off. Any AA gives me choppiness when I turn, which I would not expect. I was upset with my FPS drops in Q4, so I loaded farcry thinking I should be able to max it out with zero problems. I have no desire to play farcry, was just using it as a benchmark. I haven't tried anything on this machine but farcry and q4. I will try to clean out the drivers and reinstall, then I will post back tomorrow.
