Many IRQ conflicts, please help!

Hi!

I bought a DFI mobo for the first time about 2 months ago, and have only had nice experiences with it.

However, about a month ago, I decided to purchase the X-Fi Fatal1ty soundcard, and after installing it I noticed that it conflicted with my 7800GT (at IRQ 18).

At that time, I only had one 7800GT, and one PCI card (the X-Fi). Seeing as they conflicted, I tried putting the X-Fi in the last PCI port, and it worked.

Now, about a week ago I upgraded again, this time I installed another 7800GT.

Once I booted into Windows, I noticed that the new graphic card was conflicting with the X-Fi (IRQ 19).

It seems that the lowermost PCI slot conflicts with the lowermost PCI-E slot, and the same story with the upper slots.

There are also a few other conflicts in my system, but I'm not sure if they're doing any harm. I DO know, however, that the sound and graphic adapters doesn't like to share IRQs.

To try to rectify this problem, I did some searching in these forums, and tried to "Reset configuration data" in the BIOS, but to no avail. I also tried to set them Manually, but the BIOS only lets you select "PCI" or "Reserved" for the IRQs, and I'm not to familiar with this so I didn't touch any settings - and put it back on AUTO.

One more thing; everything in Device Manager looks normal (i.e. no question/exclamation marks).

Please find attached a screenshot of my current conflicts.

- Are any of these other conflicts important to fix?

- Does anyone know how to solve the X-Fi IRQ issue?

I hope someone can help me.

Thanks in advance!

I had the same problem when I moved my Audigy 2 to the upper PCI slot it shared IRQ with my VGA, in the lower slot it doesn't. I don't have a second graphics card yet, but now I'm worried if I do it will start to share IRQ with my sound in the bottom PCI slot. I confess I don't know how to specify a device to use a specific IRQ, but I figured at least I'd let you know yours is not the only machine to do what you describe. :)

Thanks for the replies guys.

Where is your Nvidia Nforce PCI System Management in Device Manager? Are there any issues under the Resources tab with it?

It's listed under "System devices", and yes there are some issues there, I attached a screenshot.

The part at the bottom means (translated):

Conflicting devices:

I/O area 1C00 - 1C3F not accessible/available.

I/O area 1C40 - 1C7F not accessible/available.

Also, I noticed, underneath the General tab it says underneath Device Status: "No drivers are installed for this device. Click Troubleshooting to scan for errors".

Do you have the same issues here?

WindowsXP has advanced capabilities for managing IRQ's (resource sharing). All NF4 motherboards regardless of manufacturer will more than likely have at least two devices sharing one IRQ, and most of the times they will be your higher IRQ numbers (20 and 21 are common). The only time this is a problem is if you are actually experiencing glitches in your OS or with your hardware due to the IRQ sharing. Remember, in most cases these are not IRQ "conflicts" they are IRQ "sharing". You can check for conflicts by going to my computer/system properties/hardware/device manager/ then selecting the hardware that is sharing the IRQ. Right click and select "properties" then select the "resources" tab. It will tell you if there are any conflicts at the bottom of that window. Again, shared IRQ's should not be a concern unless there is a physical manifestation of problem with your OS or hardware.

Well, it is a problem in game - Battlefield2 especially - seeing as I experience choppiness in graphics. The most likely culprit is IRQ19, shared by the 7800GT and the X-Fi.

Nobody has a solution to this??

I'm having the same problems in BF2...it's hard to narrow it down when you know you already have 2 vital components sharing an IRQ.

The game eventually froze for a few seconds, came out of it and continued. An Nvdisplay error resulted from it. This started happening soon after the 2 components began sharing an IRQ(bios flash)---using all of the same drivers too, that never had a problem.

Apparently the only answer is... XP isn't perfect. :(

I know it's a silly question, but has anybody pulled the soundcard out and seen if it corrects the choppyness in BF2 or whatever game is messing up?

Well, if I change the settings from X-Fi and Ultra High to Hardware and High, the problem is gone and my FPS are notably more stable.

Can't believe there's no solution to this... I've spent about $5.000 on upgrading my computer the last few months, only to be stopped utilizing it because of this issue!?

I suppose the only solution is a new motherboard (non-DFI)? Which would be sad, seeing as I really love my SLI-DR board.
