1) Can anyone tell me how I can get the computer to read DDR500 at bootup? I have DDR500 ram modules, but when I'm booting up the computer, it says DDR400.

2) I've noticed the chipset temperature gets really hot, any advice on how I can keep it at low 40s © ? Only way i've been able to do that so far is keeping my side panel open.

Thanks

You will need to setup your RAM in bios - It defaults to DDR400

So what is your chipset temps with side panel on? How is your case airflow?

1)Where do I go in my bios? I've never seen the option to change the ddr speed.

2)well my chipset idles at around 48 and when im playing bf2 it gets up to 55. I would say my case has good airflow, cause the other temps are just fine. CPU idles at 34 and PWM at 38 underload they stay well under 45. I have a Cooler Master Wave Master Case. I've got 3 fans sucking hot air out (one exhaust blower deal that takes up the pci slot, another on the rear, and the 3rd one on the roof), and 2 fans that take in air from the front of the case. Could this be because my 7800gtx so big?

I have Wave Master case and I mounted a 120mm fan in 5.25 bays 2-5. Blows directly on the RAM and the HS by the DRAM Jumper. I have a VanTec 80mm Tornado for exhaust, it has no problem getting the air out. I also have the two 80s shoving air over my Raptor and the 200 Gig Maxtor.

Have you pulled the chipset HSF off the chip and clean off the old TIM and replaced with Arctic Silver Ceramique? Mine dropped 15C after doing that little job.

#1 In order to get your RAM to run at DDR500, you have to overclock the machine. If you want to do that read this guide and do it properly.

If you try to shortcut it, you will be back with lots of problems.

#2 Those temps are fine for the NF4 Chipset.

Ok, my machine has been overclocked to 242fsb x 11= which is 2.66 ghz and it still reads DDR400.

So I have to overclock it to atleast 250fsb before it reads as DDR500?

And about that Artic Silver ceramique, will that really make a big difference? I did take the old compound off and placed artic silver 5 instead (same compound i put on the cpu), but hat didn't have much of a temperature decrease, it seems the same.

My case is pushing out alot of warm air, I don't understand why that chipset is soo hot.

Your DRAM Frquency is set to a 1:1 ratio. If you up your FSB speed to 250, your memory will be clocked to 250 mhz aka DDR500 speeds. If it would make you feel better, you could just get the 704-2BTA bios, which has the option to go over DDR400, and actually print at post as DDR500. Try it out.

Arctic Silver Ceramique is a good compound, but still doesn't quite compare to Arctic Silver 5. Difference isn't much noticeable, but Ceramique doesn't need "burn-in" time.

The reason why your chipset is so hot is because of your GPU probably exhausting air out onto it. That's normally a big problem. Normally it can also be caused by the intake as well...ie, not enough air being fully circulated through the case.
