OCZ 2GB questions.

Recommended Posts

Okay all, I'm at work today and was hoping you all could help me out with an issue I have ran into with trying to run some new memory.

The system in my sig is currently chugging away happily at DDR 500 with the listed memory.

I just purchaced this kit, OCZ 2GB (2 x 1GB) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16820227210 but cannot seem to get it to run at all.

I have verified that the memory is good, (2 x 1Gb) in a MSI K8N platinum with the same CPU listed in my sig up to 2.5-3-3-6/220.

I can get the system to boot intermittently with both sticks in the 2nd and 3rd slots, but both in the 1st and 2nd will not boot at all.

I can get the system to boot with each stick seprately in every slot, but attempting to change timings results in the system not booting.

The default voltage is 2.6v, I tried going to 2.7 but not higher as I wasn't sure if it would make a diffrence.

Any suggestions or ideas would be greatly appreicated, as I can't really afford to upgrade the whole system and get a new video card as well.

Thanks all!!

Seems more often than not that slots 1 &3 are the ticket for this mobo. Have you tried it in them?

Also may want to do a clear of your cmos/bios settings and start fresh... might help. Perhaps the 5/4/05 bios could help too.

I'm running 2 Gb's of the OCZ EB on mine slots 1 & 3. You may have to try a divider too. Every proc is different it seems on handling big ram loads. I can run my sticks up to abot 230-235 1:1 with my CG Clawhammer. I've got them tweaked for tighter timinings so far but may revisit 1:1 with some adjustments picked up tweaking them to this point.

There are several of us here with that problem....Newark+2gig Infineon based mem =crap

We can't get into windows unless mem is around 180mhz (give or take). Seeing that you used the combo on another mobo, I guess it could be a bios problem with the LP UT NF3 (since mobile CPU's are not officially supported).

Anyhow.... a work around that seems to have worked for us is to boot using a lower divider and then raising the divider in windows using A64 Tweaker. Example: I boot @ 12x235 with the 150 divider then raise it incrementaly to 180.

Yeah I saw that thread after i made this one... shame on me for not using the search function sooner.

No it doesn't seem to be a Newark + 2Gb issue as it worked fine in my K8N, it seems to be more of a Newark + 2Gb + DFI NF3 250Gb issue.

Anyways, that new memory worked great with my Newark on my K8N Platinum, even got it up to 250 fsb but memtest was ugly.

I have had the same experience as you where I can boot at 800MHz, but when I up the voltage and divider I get nothing. I am going to try the 5/4 bios and see what that does and post back with results.

If this doesn't work I will have to upgrade as the MSI is dead, bad BIOS, and I know the memory is good... I just can't afford to go PCIE right now...

Might have to give that new ASRock with a new 3800 X2 a try =P

Or do another hot flash on the MSI's BIOS

Well, no dice on BIOS 5/4. I'm prolly not going to worry about it and just build a new system with a 3800 X2... or try to resurect the MSI.

This has been a fun board, but it has always had issues, maybe it's just me or maybe my hardware. I know it's not the PS, that I have checked with a multimeter and it's good.

It's just frustrating that the memory works fine in two other boards but not the DFI...

Ahh well, such is life I guess =P

Thanks for all the help!!

Breakout your calculator and setup your mem divider so you boot into windows at 180 or slightly less on memory speed then use A64 tweaker to nudge up the divider incrementally to 210 mem speed but thats as far as she goes with this setup. Memory speed isn't everthing when it comes to speed on these systems. This box has never been faster than my current sig and I'm very happy with the results. I really only max out the memory when playing BF2 otherwise I dont even mess with it and never even notice. Oops forgot to mention this stuff likes lows volts 2.5v. and dram drive strength 4.
