moforila Posted November 6, 2005 Posted November 6, 2005 http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=27441 what do you guys think about this ? I don’t actually agree with it, a 6600GT with 256 doesn’t really have much on a 128 maybe like 300 3dmark05 points. The price difference between a 256 and 128 is significant and not worth the extra ≈ 4%-8% better performance also 2x 6600GT 128’s do give a 6800 ultra a run for its money. Still I wonder why the 256 version came out later.
Guest Gir Posted November 7, 2005 Posted November 7, 2005 from everything i read 2x6600gt 128mb didnt even compare to a 6800gt let alone the ultra.
red930 Posted November 7, 2005 Posted November 7, 2005 Actually, if you think about it nVidia was simply doing what all business have to do... compete with the other guy not yourself.
davidhammock200 Posted November 7, 2005 Posted November 7, 2005 Given the other . nVidia is pulling & has been for quite some time, I believe it.
moforila Posted November 9, 2005 Posted November 9, 2005 Gir, not sure what you have been reading but a 6800ultra pumps out 5700-6200 (stock) 3dmark05 score from the benchmarks I have been looking at. The 6600GT SLI is scoring around 5800-6100 (stock), this is just from a quick glance at a few review benchmarks. What I think is more important on the 6600GT is the potential of a better overclock. 6800ultras already have a decent heatsink on them that covers the ram unlike most 6600GT that have a crappy zinc ore metal thingy sink that doesn’t cover the ram chips. I managed to clock my 6600GT to a 4200 score using the stock sink and a 8 cm fan stuck over the ram chips.

NEOAethyr Posted November 9, 2005 Posted November 9, 2005 It does'nt matter what the benchs say for that. The 256m ver of the 6600gt has twice the memory crossbars then the 128m ver. It needs the memory bandwith. I wish I would seen them for sale when I went and baught mine . Ohwell I guess.... I dn. I will have to settle for an oc instead later on down the road.
