LoBo Posted November 6, 2005 Posted November 6, 2005 I just purchased yesterday and having second thoughts to as what is the best Ram to put in this system. Do ya`ll think the mushkin eXtreme Performance 2GB (2 x 1GB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM Unbuffered DDR 500 (PC 4000) Dual Channel Kit System Memory - Retail $299.00 3.4.3.8 will work out for me? Is there a better alternative, and what would that be? Please add a link to your chosen reply, if you can. davidhammock200 Posted November 6, 2005 Posted November 6, 2005 I use the OCZ Platinium (2X1Gb) 2.3.2.5
Angry_Games Posted November 6, 2005 Posted November 6, 2005 OCZ PC4000EB 2x1024 3-3-2-8 this stuff hits 265 easily on all my Lanparty boards and cpu's @ 3-3-2-7 some guys are hitting 280-290 with them' plus a lot of us have this memory...and we don't have any of that Mushkin...so we can help you with the OCZ but not the Mushkin
CPDMF Posted November 6, 2005 Posted November 6, 2005 Please correct me if I am wrong here, but aren't there a limited number of IC's that can be run on 1 gig sticks of RAM? I would do a little more research to find out exactly how much more, or less you are getting for your money. I am biased towards Mushkin, I have tried many brands, OCZ included and have found no better than the PC3200 level 2 in my sig. I have 3 512 sticks of it, bought from different places at different times and all of them will run to 290. 2 X 512 and 2 X 1024 is a different story though. When I move to my new rig I will stay brand loyal to Mushkin and pick the same as you have chose.
Angry_Games Posted November 6, 2005 Posted November 6, 2005 um not real sure of what your post is asking CPDMF you can put just about any IC's on a gig stick of RAM...there's really no limit to this OCZ's 3200 2-3-5-2 uses lower Infineon IC's that don't clock much OCZ's 4000EL uses Samsung UCCC's that clock to 250 with ease, will do about 265-275 for everyone that has owned them in this forum on our NF4 boards OCZ's 4000EB are the best yet, with some Infineon IC's that allow them to all run upwards of 265, but at 3-3-2-7 with a Venice/SanDiego/X2 cpu (and most with the EB's are hitting 275-290) I don't see much in the way of Mushkin in this forum in the 2GB kits, and 3 sticks of memory in a dual channel 939 board is not an option (1, 2, or 4), but I see a large number of OCZ users using one of these 3 kits that I have listed, plus we have OCZ reps in this forum as well as Rgone and I and Thunda and ExRoadie (your admins/mods) having OCZ...yet we don't have any Mushkin this doesn't mean that Mushkin is bad, I am sure they are very good but for a new user like the original poster, wouldn't you want him to have something that most of the users are familiar with (either OCZ or Ballistix 2GB kits) so he could get help from many many avenues instead of maybe one or two guys that have Mushkin 2GB kit? newguy Posted November 6, 2005 Posted November 6, 2005 Like Angry said, 4000EB >> OCZ5002048EBPE-K is good choice. The other one is the Gold 4000 >> OCZ5002048ELGE-K; they cost a bit more than the EB  but I found they are easier to OC than the EB. The third choice is Crucial Ballistix 4000, they are well known for 2GB OCer. Beside the one you picked, they might be very good too but for support I think you better stick with OCZ cause tons of us using them & you will a lot easier to get help with these ram instead of the one you pick really. Pyr0 Posted November 6, 2005 Posted November 6, 2005 i really like my ocz eb pc4000 platinums, the timings and scalability are great i do have a small problem, but i think that's more to do with my cpu i definately reccomend these sticks i tried crucial ballistix, but for such a large company, they seem to send out random sticks of memory not tested together i got a bad pair, and decided to go with ocz instead  i'm glad i did, there are lots of ocz support guys on various forums, and Angry has these sticks too

LoBo Posted November 6, 2005 Posted November 6, 2005 Thanks for all the advice guys. I`m realy not sure now....lol  . This memory purchase is the hardest equation I have ran into. Everything else was rather simple. To add to an already difficult decision, OCZ is hard to find at the moment, most are back ordered. I`m now thinking I should have went with OCZ though since most of you run it.
sQuid Posted November 6, 2005 Posted November 6, 2005 LOBO: I'm in the same situation as you (see sig). The MUSHKIN is good ram and if you decide to get it try this link at newegg. At $264 w MIR it will save you some money: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16820146397 BUT after my final research here at DFI Street I have decided on one of the OCZ PC4000 products...mainly for the reasons outlined by Angry_Games. When lots of people use something the knowlege base is much better AND the product itrelf gets a better workout (test). Its strengths, weaknesses, reliability, and consistency are better known. For some more insight about how I came to this decision about the exact memory you are considering see the THREAD "Research Complete..." in this forum from earlier today. No this is not a shameless plug for my thread...I'm only pointing you here because you seem to be having the same trouble deciding about the same memory I was considering and the fine folks here gave me that invaluable little insight that made up my mind. Good Luck..and trust the people here ( I do)...they really know their stuff.
AndyOCZ Posted November 6, 2005 Posted November 6, 2005 For the OCZ 2gb kits, Newegg is great. Atacom is good also and Monarch usually has stock. The PC4000 EB Platinum 2gb kits are sold at until next week. Any or all of the above stores should have it by next weekend or so. The PC4000 Gold 2gb is in stock a Newegg: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16820227219 The PC3200 Platinum 2gb is at Newegg also and is $225.55 after mail in rebate of $27.00: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16820227210 And of course you get us OCZ types to help if you need it.
