framedoc Posted November 5, 2005 Posted November 5, 2005 Hi all. I'm a virgin in regards to posting here and I would like to say that if it wasn't for this forum and the support that is here I would NOT have purchased the DFI mobo. I had a choice to make...I've been into pc's for 20 years (opps...giving away some of my age there!) and my decision was 1) Do I get something that I can just plug the parts in and maybe o/c a bit and be happy... or 2) Finally turn this obsession into a hobby and get into serious o/c'ing. Well I chose the later (for better or for worse!) and so far I have had very mixed joy. I have been lurking here for weeks trying to learn and understand what I need to so I can get this rig running stable. I have refused to post here asking for help without trying to research myself (unlike a myriad of closet noobs I have seen) and I will continue to do so until the very end!! My first post here is mainly to allow the DFI Street d/b to have some record of someone using the low end high performance G.Skill PC3200 BH5 2-2-2-5 1T spec memory with the NF4 Ultra-D mobo. Thanks to all the info on the web (95% from DFI Street) I have easily been able to get up and running with several different bios versions but I have not easily been able to find stable settings at stock or o/c speeds. Moreover my frustration has multiplied due to the fact that I have actually got "Toaster" qualifying evidence (P95, CPU-Z & 3Dmark2001) of o/c'd speeds that I can no longer reproduce and therefore not worth submitting. I have tried bios 623-3 with which I managed to qualify my "Toaster" benchmarks but afterwards no stability (later discovering that my memory isn't suited to this bios - my bad), bios 704-2 with which I had more success but once again after finding stable o/c'ing not being able to replicate the feat and now I am currently testing the 623-2 bios with mainly AUTO settings at stock speeds. In regards to the G.Skill BH5 2.2.2.5 1T I think it's pretty good for the price (eg. bang for buck) I have managed to determine that some poor settings on my behalf have limited my progress at even being able to repeat stable stock settings once in Windows but the memory itself will perform well in the memest environment. IE - DDR500 at about 3.4V no problems (some active cooling is probably advised). I believe in my case the CPU is not a great one (due to my lack of research and hasty purchase  ) and consequently is hindering the full performance of this ram in regards to a whole, stable system. So as I progress I will keep posting here as my component choice seems to be a little "outside of the square" and it may be able to help some others in some small way. This is a fantastic forum and a lot of guys put in a lot of time to help others...it's very much appreciated by me for sure. **Just in** As I finish typing this OCCT has just passed with the following setup: Bios 623-2 CPU temp 48deg C peak (interesting with only 1.4V) *EDIT* OCCT seems to be reading my chipset temps as CPU temps. CPU hardly raised a sweat during the test. Memory modules in the YELLOW slots. PX7800GT in the 2nd SLI slot with SLI jumpers in the SLI position to allow for 8X. (Trying to get the card out of the way of the chipset as my temps have been high...47-51deg C since I got this board - even after appling the AS5 paste) FSB Bus Frequency.............200 LDT/FSB Frequency Ratio.......AUTO LDT Bus Transfer Width..........16/16 CPU/FSB Frequency Ratio......AUTO (I know...should be 10X stock) PCI Express Frequency......100Mhz Cool 'n' Quiet.........Disabled CPU VID Startup.........AUTO CPU VID control........AUTO CPU VID Special........AUTO LDT Voltage control.......1.20V Chipset Voltage Control.....1.50V DRAM Voltage Control.........2.80V DRAM +.03V.........DISABLED GENIE BIOS Setting >DRAM Configuration DRAM Frequency Set (MHZ).............200 (DRAM/FSB:1/01) Command per clock (CPC)..............Enabled Cas latency (tCL)....................2 RAS to CAS delay (tRCD)..............2 Min RAS active time (tRAS)...........7 (I heard 7 is good for BH5 & AMD??) Even if it passes P95 I won't post this in the Stock forum until I can at least replicate the procedure 2 or 3 more times.
