shortympm89 Posted November 4, 2005 Posted November 4, 2005 Well, ok I am really new at this. I know like all the basics and stuff. I have been researching parts for the past 3 weeks. I plan on spending less than 1400$ w/o monitor, but would like to keep it around 1000-1200$. I plan on getting everything from newegg. I do not know much of those technical terms and stuff, I am a real noob at this. Well I know what overclocking means but I don’t know how to, but I am sure I can figure that out so in the future I will be overclocking so I took that into consideration when looking for the components. Please give me some feedback and suggestions, having some trouble on finding a good case, power supply, and RAM. CPU: AMD Athlon 64 4000+ San Diego 1GHz FSB 1MB L2 Cache Socket 939 Processor – Retail $334.00 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16819103529 *Still debating whether to get the X2 4200+* ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- *Debating between these two, I want to save money but the GTX is just that much better. And in the future I plan on running SLI* Right now I am leaning towards the GT Video Card: XFX PVT70GUDF7 Geforce 7800GT 256MB 256-bit GDDR3 VIVO PCI Express x16 Video Card – Retail $359.00 - $329.00 After $20 mail in rebate http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16814150108 XFX PVT70FUNF7 Geforce 7800GTX 256MB 256-bit GDDR3 VIVO PCI Express x16 Video Card with 450MHz Core and 1250MHz Memory – Retail $469.00 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16814150100 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Motherboard: DFI LANPARTY nF4 SLI-DR Socket 939 NVIDIA nForce4 SLI ATX AMD Motherboard – Retail $189.00 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16813136151 *I have pretty much decided on this board, would like to go SLI in the near future and once I get to know my stuff more I will overclock* ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ram: Well I have not decided on this at all yet. I need some suggestions from you guys; I have really looked at the OCZ Platinum Revision 2. I would like 2 GB of RAM. Good timings without overclocking, I will learn to overclock eventually though so need to keep that in mind. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hard Drive: Seagate Barracuda 7200.8 ST3250823AS 250GB 7200 RPM 8MB Cache Serial ATA150 Hard Drive – OEM $99.50 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16822148065 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- CD-Drive: NEC Black 16X DVD+R 8X DVD+RW 8X DVD+R DL 16X DVD-R 6X DVD-RW 16X DVD-ROM 48X CD-R 32X CD-RW 48X CD-ROM 2M Cache IDE DVD Burner – OEM $38.75 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16827152047 Also getting a $10.00 Floppy, just in case. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Case: I have not found one yet. I would like something that is going to keep everything cool, overclocked or not. If there is no power supply I would like to spend up to $115, if I can get a good one for a bit more then that will do. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Power Supply: None decided on yet, please give me some feedback. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- If there is anything else that I need like some cooling products then please give feedback on that also. And remember my budget is really anywhere up to 1400$, can go more but will have to wait another couple weeks but would like to keep it under that. Also I already have a Soundblaster card just lying around the house so I can use that. Thanks!

Sharp Posted November 5, 2005 Posted November 5, 2005 Hello, If you want 2GB get a PC4000 2x1GB kit. That will be able to run at 250Mhz but you must OC your CPU if you want to make the most of it. The OCZ PC4000EB 2x1GB kit is a good choice. I hope you have read this http://www.dfi-street.com/forum/showthread.php?t=24719 And this, http://www.dfi-street.com/forum/showpost.p...76&postcount=13 For a good power supply, ask David. http://www.dfi-street.com/forum/showthread.php?t=10854
DoubleStack Posted November 5, 2005 Posted November 5, 2005 Well I really dont know what to recommend for you. I am not yet a DFI user yet so I could not direct you to a batter motherboard. I am going to go with the Lanparty SLI-DR or Expert if it is out by the time I am back in the states. Either of those video cards would work well for anything you want to throw at them, personally I would take the GTX. There are several posts here about RAM, the RAM guide that is sticky would be a good place to start looking. The drives look fine to me. I have to recommend the Cooler Master CM Stacker for a case, the new version isnt a full tower case, which you would not need anyway. PSU: This one is easy, Enermax All in One Noise Taker 600W. All of these items can be found on newegg.
