how do i cool my PWMIC?

as anyone got any mods or ideas on cooling the pwmic please?

mine gets to around 50-53c when underload running a opteron 146 @ 3ghz and thinks its a little high.

also, would it be worth upgrading my arctic freezer64 for a thermalright si-120 & a 120mm panaflo? not sure if the xp120 would fit. it may not reduce cpu temps much but thought it may help cool the pwmic abit?

any ideas would be much appreciated

edit: will the Thermalright SLK948U be better for a opteron?

Hi

I have a seperate 80 mm fan blowing cool air on to my PWM and it works very well, assuming the NF4 Ultra D is the same layout as the NF4 SLI-DR then the chip is located up just above and to the left of the 24 pin ATX power socket on the M/B.

Although I am sure if this is wrong someone will correct me

I just installed an artic cooler on my 7800 and my PWMIC temps went from 45+ down to 35 deg at idle. Guess the hot air from the stock fan was hitting the PWMIC senser. CPU temps are down about 4 deg. Chipset temps are down about 4 deg. too. A pleasant side effect in addition to the greatly reduced gpu temps at idle and especially at load.

I just found a unique and easy solution for fan placement. After having done a combination of the other suggestions (I had a small thin 60mm fan twisty tied). I have come up with a solution that so far seems quite solid. First take note that not too far from the row of heatsinks, there are two motherboard anchors with screws holding the motherboard to the tray of your case. I got a bolt long enough to mount a fan to and installed it into one corner of the fan. Then i put a nylon lockwasher and nut over that. I tighten the nut until it just started to touch the fan, but not so tight that I can't turn the screw, yet. Then I insert the long screw, attached to the fan obviously, into the motherboard tray mount hole and turn the screw until it tightens firmly. Then I used a curve pair of needle nose pliers to hold the nut on the inside, nearest the motherboard, and then tighten the screw head itself. If you put the bolt through only the inside hole of the fan (closest to the MB again), you can still put a decorative grill over the fan if you want. I can show you guys some pics if you want. It will have to wait until I get done with my duties today, but this is quite trick and works well. Much cleaner than the old twisty ties and now I have a really good looking AC Ryan blackfire fan with a cool fan grill on display.
