1nspired Posted November 1, 2005 Posted November 1, 2005 Hello, I just finished following the post "NF4 LanParty - initial build w/pictures" and the Quick Installation Guide that came in the box. I did the build outside of the box, and right now all that is hooked up is the 4 power connectors, one stick of ram in the orange slot closest to the edge of the board, chip/heatsink/fan, video card (w/monitor connected), and the keyboard on the ps/2 connection. Whenever I flip the power switch on the PSU I see two LED lights come on (LED1 by the com port and LED6 by the dimm slots). They are yellowish. Then, whenver I hit the power button on the mb nothing happens. Any ideas for me to try? Thanks for the help, Jon

Thanks for the help, Jon I always put the power switch connector on backwards, thats the first thing I look for...also might want to hook up a hard drive, the PSU might not kick on unless it has a bit of a load to supply. 1nspired Posted November 1, 2005 Posted November 1, 2005 Thanks for the response. I connected the HD and it still did not do anything. For the power switch, I'm using the one on the mb so thats not it either. Do you know of anything else that I could try? Thanks, Jon
p0tter Posted November 1, 2005 Posted November 1, 2005 Is there a switch on the rear of the powersupply to change from 115/230 (probably orange and hard to adjust)? Make sure its on 115. Try reseating the CPU and moving the Ram around
1nspired Posted November 1, 2005 Posted November 1, 2005 Thanks for the response. It is on 115, reseated chip, and put a different stick of ram in, and tried a second slot. Unfortunately, after I flip the PSU switch the two led lights come on, on the board, and then whenever I hit the power button on the mb nothing happens. Thanks for the help so far, any other suggestions? Thanks, Jon
Reinvented Posted November 1, 2005 Posted November 1, 2005 Please revise your sig with very specific information regarding bios version and more-so the specifics of your memory. Also, make sure that your motherboard isn't too tightened to the motherboard tray which can cause it to short.
red930 Posted November 1, 2005 Posted November 1, 2005 Stupid question (sorry) -- You are hitting the power button and not the restart button right? Do you know for sure that PSU works? Is the motherboard sitting on sometihng that it could be shorting out? Look over the mobo and see if anything looks like it could have been broken in shipping, capacitors especially are prone to getting bent over and broken. Try swapping with known good ram, gpu, cpu, psu etc if you have any lying around. Could try clearing the CMOS, I'd think it'd try to start up even if it somehow got corrupted, but you never know. Hell, check the battery while you're at it.. I'm kinda reaching here, can't think of much else. Hope something works Edit: while this probably isn't the problem, that RAM isn't particularly well supported by Lanparty boards. Might want to consider getting some decent OCZ, Mushkin, Geil or something. Theres a sticky that says what works well and what doesn't. h0db Posted November 1, 2005 Posted November 1, 2005 This is also going to sound stupid, but I've seen everything... the motherboard is mounted to the case with brass standoffs, right? You don't say much about your experience building systems, and I've seen more than a few instances of motherboards screwed directly into the case, withtout standoffs. I believe he has it on his desk, so it's probably on the foam that came with the board, though I spose if he has a removeable tray... p0tter Posted November 1, 2005 Posted November 1, 2005 Could the Cmos jumper be on clear cause it not to bootup? Happned on some older PII I've worked on. Flip through the guide and make sure all jumpers are on the correct setting. GL
pday Posted November 1, 2005 Posted November 1, 2005 I had a similar problem with my DFI rig. Short CMOS clearing didn't help. Reseated the CPU and swapped out a memory stick but that didn't help. Tested the PSU but it was normal. Connected up one hard drive but that didn't help. Did the overnight CMOS clearing procedure and it posted right up. 1nspired Posted November 1, 2005 Posted November 1, 2005 h0db: the motherboard isn't even mounted, testing it outside of the case. as far as my experience, I'm definately not a pro though. technodanvan: been hitting both just to make sure nothing is shorting it out, i have it on the foam with some coasters under it. not sure about the psu, it is brand new though. I'll see if i can give everything a test. just dont have much to work with. I looked over the board and nothing appears to be broken(but I'm sure DFI would fire me my first week if I had to do QC). Reinvented: motherboard isn't even mounted yet, and I have no idea what version the BIOS is. Is there some way of checking this without it even starting up? The memory is Corsair ValueSelect, 1G (2x512mb) 184-pin DDR-DIMMs. (only one in right now, and I'll update sig) Thanks for the help, I really appreciate it. Let me know of any more suggestions.
