Lots of headaches...

Hiya,

I finally received 2 CF boards and been running into several problems so far - the most frustrating has been the I can't even complete a single 3DMark run with 2 X850XTs ( one of them being Mastercard) - at a measly 200FSB / 1:1 mem.

I tried with TCCD at very lax timinigs - BH5 and UTT...all at stock. The TCCD has been unable to complete even SuperPI 1M run at 200FSB...

with the BH I can sometimes complete the first test of 3DMark05 - but only sometimes, but in test 2 it will then crash very shortly.

I can complete the 3DMark05 with a single card - but not CF. ( actually core OC appeared to be down but 10Mhz.).T

he Framesrates look very promising, but no dice for me yet.

Thinghs I tried/doing:

- I tried running with 2 PSUs - same probs.

- LDT bus is set to 3X

- PCI-E Lanes - both 8X

- put Memory in various slots 1/3 2/4 reversed sticks...

- Used AFI GPU driver / X850XT CF driver / official ATi Cat 10

- underclocked CPU

- Underclocked ram

- tried software/ hardware reset

- enabled / disables PLL whatever

ANother interesting thing is that the CPU appears to be running very very cool - same with the memory @ 3.5V - I have a feeling that the bios reads voltages WAY wrong - maybe there lies the culprit? Anyone knows of hand where to read the voltages with a multimeter?

I just booted up the second CF board - still many problems with the TCCD and voltages appearing to be off as well- similar occasional bios - boot lock-ups ... always after reboot ... going to try runing dual cards in CF now...

Just an update - board #2 also can't complete a single 3DMark run...   too bad that peeps have to pay premium to Beta test...

well FPS look very promsing when it runs - hopefully eventually with bios revisons things will get better . Funny thing is I can run Crossfire on an Intel NON-CF board without ANY probs - but not with a CF native board - lol

I have a feeling the board can not supply the power properly to the PCI-E slots

Has anyone been able to run Crossfire? Prolly not too many peeps out there yet having a mastercard.

well nobody seems to have any help or suggestions so far...I wonder how long this will take to straighten out - cause it would be sad to have 2 useless boards sitting around for months, while prices keep dropping. Maybe RMA would be the best - well on the other hand I'd probably just a 2 more useless boards back or have to eat 15% restocking fee...hmm but then in 2 months these boards might be only $1X0 bucks...and I'd do better biting into the 15% restocking fee.

Good new is I have the TCCD running @ 295 FSB 2.3.3.7 1T 1:1 - but no dice on the Crossfire ( even @ 200FSB...) .

Going to have to go back to a P5WD2 board in order to play with crossfire then...

"dodo", AG nor myself can tell you what your hands and feet should do at this time. I think you need to assess the "knowns" and not the "unknowns" about your current situation and follow your gut instincts, man. That too is as far as I can go with the "unknowns".

I have two rdx200's and know of another two that came from two entirely different supply channels to the end user and none of them is a dud. They may not clock the same as say DFI NF4 and they do not adjust the same by any means. Nvidia user needs to format brain before attempting rdx200 comes easily to mind.

AG has prime stable settings posted in the OCDB and I have put up a few little tidbits about settings in these threads here. But I cannot possibly go thru all the vagaries of this initial teething time. I have tried about 5 brands of tCCd and my skills get me up and going pretty d*mn easy with any of it. Ocz EB 2x1gig sticks work fine as well. So I am totally at loss to find out why users themselves cannot at the least get moving forward. I just don't freeken know man. Sorry! Go with your gut.

Yes- each card is benching stable in 3DMarks at this point in single card set-up.

A different bios has helped me to get the is board up and running.

RE: Crossfire problem:

My gut tells me that the problem must lie in the ATI chipset itself as the cards run fine in Crossfire on another board.

The chipset in my case...must not like videocards running the same clocks. I order to set various clocks, so far I was resticted to overclock via bios changes of the Vid cards - and hadn't set async clocks so far. Just made more sense to me...

UNTIL I had the brilliant idea to match a X850Pro with my X850XT CF mastercard. Matched the clocks - and no go - set the clocks async - and HURRAH - up and benching...

NOW comes the kicker - The cat driver set the Mastercard to 12 pipes - which is no surprise - ATI has been stating this for months now that we can expect that to happen. The sad story is that this appears to be a permanent thing so far for me. LOL :sweat::sweat:

I now have a X850PRO CF mastercard.

Re-flashing bios etc. was been no help so far.

AWESOME!

Oh what a story,

I bet u are relieved to find out wht the problem was, but dismayed that u cant flash your card back to a X850XT CF mastercard. Good luck in getting that solved, which flash program have u used to do the flashing?

  • 2 weeks later...

hi, guys:

I am still playing with my X850 crossfire.

Pretty much got this new system set properly and my X850 is now running with 16 piplines.

I got my screen capture here, and interesting thing you might notice,

I flash the BIOS back to 10/11 one, and it still works.

saw some of you were having problems with crossfire setting, just wondering if you guys still have problems with crossfire?

Make sure you enable both dual ports on BIOS setting and crossfire enabled on ATI catalyst control center advance setting page.
