Plans for bios fix for SB X-FI?

Recommended Posts

For those waiting for an updated bios to fix the issue---

Here's DFI/Taiwan's response:

"Dear Customer,

Thank you for submitting us the query. We had made simulation and test result is fine within our latest version BIOS as patch, please find the BIOS at our official webpage for download. In the meantime please make adjustment on your BIOS setting for APIC mode (Recommend to disable for fewer devices) or Integrated Peripherals for disabling unused devices for prevent conflict, and then re-install your operating system. If problem persists, you might have to contact your dealer for RMA service or contact your X-Fi adapter vendor for other workaround."

In summary-- It's Creative's problem, not DFI's. :O

(The bios mentioned is the 6-23-2005 version.)

As I suspected, finger-pointing. Do these companies really think we care who's fault it is? I'd like to use PCI Slot 3 some day with the X-Fi.

So no BIOS fix is needed for the Lanparty as DFI say the problem is rectified in the latest official bios.

There are a couple of earlier posts (Gear Junkie in post #10 and GooGeL in #34) which confirm this.

Great news, I'm going shopping for an XtremeMusic!

The latest bios fix does not rectify the issue. The 6-23-2005 bios is the latest and it's not very late, nor --again-- does it fix the issue.

It's up to Creative to modify the firmware for the cards.

Do you have APIC disabled in your bios or any other unusual setting selected?

Thanks

No fix from DFI. They deny there is a problem. *head in sand*

The problem doesn't affect all NF4 boards for some reason, but if it pops up, you'll have to return your X-Fi to receive one with a modified firmware.

well theres more than one way to fix a problem. Other motherboard manafacturers have released updated bioses to fix compatability issues, which DFI haven't done. But without any technical information can't make an accurate conclusion as to whether its creative, DFI, or Nvidia that is at fault, or whether its a mix of them all :P
