3-4 Errors in memtest 86+ test #7 with 2gb ocz ram

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

Hopefully someone can help me. I am getting 3-4 errors memtest 86+. They are always on test #7 and the first 3 are normally on pass number 1 (after pass 0).

I have tested each stick individually and i only get errors on one on the 1gb sticks. They are in the orange slots - Any ideas? is my ram faulty (again) ? They have just been replaced and i can't go without a computer for another 2-3 weeks. Too much work to do!

I can list all my bios dram settings if need be, maybe someone can shed some light. Maybe i have a slight setting that needs to be changed or something in order for the errors to go away?

If you need any additional information just ask,

thanks

Well that sounds familiar.

I have been having the same problems (single digit number of errors in test 7) with what appears the exact same ram. Unfortunately the conclusion I have arrived at after talking with OCZ for the past couple weeks is to RMA the set. But it sounds like you already tried that and the new set does the same thing. That does not sound encouraging to me, now I am seriously considering eating it and paying for a different set.

I would be happy to compare settings with you, but I am guessing we are both running the settings provided by OCZ. The settings they gave did help reduce the number of errors but haven't eliminated them. Sorry that I am not much help.

Since I have the same ram with the same problem I will post the settings I am currently running, that way the thread starter can compare. I recieved these settings from AndyOCZ:

200, Enable, 3, 3, 8, 3, 8, 16, 3, 3, 2, 3, 3120, Enable, Auto, 0, Level 6 (Normal 3), Auto, Auto, Fast, Auto, 256, Disable, 16, 7, Disable

The set I have only runs at 2.6V. Increasing to 2.7V or beyond increases the number of errors.

My signature says the system is overclocked, but Memtest is run at stock speeds (both processor and ram) and my current overclock runs the ram at 200.5 MHz

try with auto settings see if these help ...

from my experience .. u can pass memtest #7 by modifying the stock settings a bit. check spd settings under A64 tweaker or systools and play with some of the settings in the bios ... just change/tweak settings that affects test#7. If afterwards there are errors in other tests(#5 or #8 in particular) .. set it to the previous settings(before the changes). Try Rgone Bios settings as a starter .. it helps mine passed all the test .. go from there.

Thanks, it's good to be here :) I've had this computer for 5-6 weeks now and i've had nothing but problems with blue screens and weird booting up problems. Initially i had 20,000-30,000+ errors on the first lot of ram i had. I used to get PFN_LIST_CORRUPT, MEMORY_MANAGEMENT, and IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL BSOD's.

When I got the new sticks back i still had blue screens and experienced only the PFN_LIST_CORRUPT and IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL bSOD's. After i would get these bluescreens it would always be an "event id: 1003" error in event viewer.

Originally i had 253 errors on test #7 during pases 10-12 after 9 hours of running but managed to get it down to the 3-4 im whining about now :)

I did email ocz the first time and they did give me some settings to use but unfortunately they were no help. The settings i'm running on below are as follows. I did a bit of reading and have been playing around, so far it's worked.

DRAM Frequency Set(Mhz) - auto or by dram default, something like that

Command Per Clock (CPC) - enabled

CAS Latency Control (tCL) - 3

RAS # to CAS# Delay (tRCD) - 3

Min RAS# Active Timing (tRAS) - 8

Row Precharge Timing (tRP) - 3

Row Cycle Timing (tRC) - 7

Row Refresh Cycle Time (tRFC) - 17

Row to Row Delay (tRRD) - 3

Write Recovery Time (tWR) - 3

Write to Read Delay (tWTR) - 2

Read to Write Delay (tRTW) - 2

Refresh Period (tREF) - 3120

Write CAS# Latency (tWCL) - auto (tried 1)

DRAM Bank Interleave - enable

DQS Skew Control - auto (tried increase)

DQS Skew Value - 0 (tried 50)

DRAM Drive Strength - level 8

DRAM Data Drive Strength - level 1

Max Async Latency 07.0

DRAM Response Time - normal

Read Preamable Time - 05.0 (tried 04.0)

Idle Cycle Limit - 256 (tried 032 also)

Dynamic Counter - disable (tried on enable also)

R/W Queue Bypass - 16x

Bypass Max - 07x

32 Byte Granulation - disable

I am currently running my ram on 2.7 volts - i've tried testing with 2.8 volts as well and it didn't make a difference. I am unsure as to what the safe voltages are for this ram. I'm so new to this :)

You seem to have the same cpu, ram and m/b as me so let me know if you ever fix yours. Comparing would be great. Post your settings. The sooner we get to the bottom of it the better :)

have you oced ?

i would reccomend atleast at first to run everything on auto so u can find out what settings work later ....

Hi there, I haven't overclocked anything since i got the machine. The original plan was to learn about overclocking and go from there but i've had too many issues with the computer to do anything. i guess when i iron out these final errors i'm gonna oc.

Don't think the computer liked it when i had everything on auto. I think i started out with the settings that ocz gave me and then went from there.

Here are the original settings from ocz that they recommended if it helps

Memory Voltage: 2.7

CPC = DISABLED

CAS Latency(CL) = 2

RAS to CAS(Trcd) = 3

Min RAS# Active time(Tras) = 8

Row Precharge Time(Trp) = 2

Row Cycle Time(Trc) = 7

Row Refresh Cycle Time(Trfc) = 16

Row to Row Delay(Trrd) = 3

Write Recovery Time(Twr) = 3

Write to Read Delay(Twtr) = 1

Read to Write Delay(Trwt) = 2

Refresh Period (Tref) = 0648

Write CAS Latency(Twcl) = Auto

DRAM Bank Interleave = Enabled

Skew = AUTO

Skew Value = 0

DRAM Drive Strength = Level 3

DRAM Data Drive Strength = Level 1

Max Async Latency = 7ns

Read Preamble Time = 5ns

Idle Cycle Limit = 256

Dynamic Counter = Enabled

R/W Queue Bypass = 16x

Bypass Max = 7x

32 byte Granularity = Disable(8burst)

It would be very helpful if you could post your BIOS settings.

How much voltage are you giving your RAM? Have you tried upping it .1v?

Thanks i have posted bios settings above. dram voltage is at 2.7v (up from 2.6) , and i've tried 2.8. I'm unsure of how high to go.

thanks
