Any Build Hints/Tips

Recommended Posts

Okay here's the deal. Just bought the following pc components for my second build overall. I'm new to AMD and 64 bit as well as sli and was just wondering if anyone had any hints or tips when setting this thing up. The computer is as follows.

DFI Lanparty NF4 Sli-Dr

AMD 64 3700+ San Diego 1 mb cache

2 x 36 gb Raptors for Raid 0

2 x eVGA 7800GT CO for Sli

Enermax All-in-One Noisetaker 600W

1 gig (2x512) OCZ DDR400

Thermaltake Armor Case

Please no comments on what I bought. I didn't post to hear that I should've bought something else or wasted my money on something. Just some helpful hints on setting this baby up.

Make sure you have the 4pin molex to p4 adater with the Enermax All-in-One Noisetaker 600W. Mine came with no adapter which was not to big of a deal as fry's had them for $4.99. Also make sure you flash to the most current official bios on dfi site. By the way good purchase

How to flash BIOS with Diamond Flash Image? I find this Image file

Diamond Flash Image is unique feature developed by DFI to facilitate users flashing BIOS. User does not have to run the complicated procedures, but just flash the BIOS as an easy job.

1. Prepare one piece of clean floppy diskette.

2. Run the BIOS file from website directly or copy it to HDD to run.

3. It will image to floppy disk drive "A" including flash utility, BIOS file along with instruction and create booting program automatically.

4. Boot up the system from FDD. It will automatically flash the BIOS.

5. Press "F1" as instructed when completing the flashing.

6. Run "Load Optimized Defaults" or "Load Setup Defaults" in BIOS after completing the BIOS flashing

AG, I've seen it before. That's why I said it. People thinking someone bought the wrong thing. I read for days and researched even more the parts. What I planned originally and what I have change completely. I'll be sure to read through those posts and watch the video.

Another question. To start off I will not be oc'ing or any of that stuff so I am going stick with air cooling. However, I would eventually like to go to water cooling but I have no clue about it or where to start. Any suggestions or personal experiences for when I switch to watercooling.

Make sure all power connectors are plugged in and check your hard drives with software available from Western Digital. One of my Raptors were bad and I wasted hours trying to figure out what was wrong with my new machine. Luckily Angry Games suggested I check the hard drives and that was the problem. Once I got a replacement all was fine.

Take your time one stic of memory to load windows etc there are tons of stickies.

Check out the links in my sig for some water cooling info. Honistly though unless you want quet or the very last ounce of performance watercooling is overkill.

Pretty much just expect minor issues with this board until you become aquainted with its intricacies. I promise you if you plan to OC or do anything beyond stock you will encounter headaches at various points. Just be persistent, read everything you can here, and dont be afraid to ask stupid questions, you made a nice choice for parts for your rig, not bleeding edge, which means you have driver support, which I am currently waiting on lol.
