I thought "hammer" was the basic architecture on which the newer athlons/Opterons were built. Venice, sandy, venus, all of it. I hope that can be clarified by someone.... At any rate I've owned a CABNE 0528 and a CABYE 0540. They were both Venus, two of the three best(proven) steppings ever. It say on the website that that one is "Hammer" core, as opposed to (not including) Venus? Linkage? EDIT: Ok. I read up on it some more. AMD's 8th generation processors arewere called the Hammer-based platform. Never encountered an Opteron core that actually got the codename "Hammer". Maybe 940 as you say... But then again, under socket 939 there are two different namings: OSA144BNBOX and OSA144DAA5BN. So do you think that one of them is the oem version and the other is retail?
