dac4n4d14n Posted August 3, 2003 Posted August 3, 2003 im getting a little tired of my steel case and was looking to buy a new one. after looking around on the internet i found an aluminum case that i really like. however it doesn't have a window of any kind already on it. and personally i don't wanna cut one out myself. i hear that its not good to make a window from an aluminum case... why is that? anyways, what i was thinking that i have no problem doing, is get a sheet of some clear material (acrylic, polycarbonate, glass?) with the same dimensions as the side panel of the aluminum case and use some adhesive to glue some sort of hooks similar to the one on the original side panel so i could hook it onto the case and thus have a completely clear side panel? is this possible? what materials should i use? any ideas and thoughts would be great. thanks in advance. DevilMB3017 Posted August 3, 2003 Posted August 3, 2003 Lexan plexiglass would prolly be the best thing to use. It's light weight and scratch resistant. I guess you could make it the same dimensions and just put double sided tape around the corners and sides and everything. It should work. wanksta Posted August 3, 2003 Posted August 3, 2003 in my opinion that would look a little ghetto with double sided tape. and if he is spending all that money on the aluminum case i suggest not.  they say aluminum is a bad idea to cut because it is softer metal, but if you do it right with the proper tools you won't have a problem  they sell kits, and you could leave a X shape by cutting 4 triangles and your side panel would not loose its rigidity. then you can drill holes like 8 to secure the clear plastic to the side panel. Newb_ocer Posted August 4, 2003 Posted August 4, 2003 Well If you want the best effect you would cut that whole and mount your plexi glass in your side but since your not willing to work that hard for it the results wont be great... But i had a pieace of plexi Velcro'ed onto the side of the case with a fan on it. It was okay but the velcro kept coming loose thats why im making it professional but putting it in the side of my case. Just bought this today here Then again my case is steel ooo aahhh Just notices the handel in the way Ahh SIGH i better not hafta cancel order
dac4n4d14n Posted August 4, 2003 Posted August 4, 2003 yeah i don't kno about that double sided tape idea devil but lexan plexiglass, huh? sounds good. could i somehow glue some hooks or sumthin so it could fit n hook onto the side of my case like the original aluminum side panel with the lexan then? it's not that i'm not willing to work hard on the case. believe me, it seems like my computer is the only thing i think about sometimes but it is a pretty expensive case and i don't really want to mess with the side panel since i haven't had experience doin it before. if i screw up with the plexiglass, i'd still have the original side panel. so yeah. velcrow sounds a little bit better than double sided tape, but i was leaning more on my hook idea, if it is able to work. ccokeman Posted August 26, 2003 Posted August 26, 2003 All u need to do is cut the side of your case to the shape u want etch or sandblast your design onto a Lexan Panel, remount with some #6-32 srews that have acorn nuts to the outside to hold it in place and there you have it 'no tape or glue to loosen and fall off . I will be doing that this weekend got tired of old window.
