Broken board?

Recommended Posts

I have the NF4 Sli-DR motherboard. I had it

overclocked for a while. It was all stable and good,

but i bought pc4800 RAM and i wanted a higher

overclock. So i decided to reset it all back to stock

and start over. When i did this, the system crashed

while in BIOS. I restarted and now BIOS has each page

overlaying each other(you can see the page that you

are on plus the previous one at the same time.). It

will not allow me to select any changes that i want to

make, when i try to change any settings it does one of

two things:

#1= All words and symbols on the page disappear.

#2= The system crashes again.

I cleared cmos with the jumper and all of the settings

went back to default except for the voltages which i

had set to CPU=1.5v , Chipset=1.6v. If i

try to alter these the system crashes.

When i start the system and allow windows to boot

without going into BIOS, windows doesnt boot. At one

of the boot screens where it usually said "Verifying

dmi data pool" it now says "cmos checksum error". It

tries to load windows but the screen goes black and

stays that way until i restart.

Now, after attempting about 6 failed boots, i dont

even get to the first boot screen with the LanParty

logo on it. I swapped the ram with another set that i

have and it does the same as stated above. I checked

the cpu for any visible burn spots and it is fine, it

never went over 40C even when stress testing it.

Is my motherboard beyond repair? An online forum said

that my bios is corrupted and i need a new board. Is

that right? I think that my chipset or bios is burnt

or corrupted.

That is a very wide range link rldolph. What are you telling me to do?

And to FlowerKing, i cleared cmos several times with no luck. As stated in my original post, all settings go to default except for the voltages. I have contacted dfi tech support and they are instructing me on some sort of FFD solution...i dont know what it is at this point, but i am having some problems with my back-up computer as well...so we will see.

ITMT, any other suggestions or information will be greatly appriciated.

there...hows that for a sig? Now back to my problem...i have no idea where you got that seemingly random string of procedures to fix the board, but it didnt work. It did however get me further in the boot process than anything that i have tried yet. I get to the screen where it askes me to boot windows "normally" , in "safe-mode", "safe-mode with networking"..ect ect. But then regardless of my selection, the system freezes.

Exactly which "seemingly random string of procedures" are you refering too?

The link I provided is the precise set of actions that must be taken.

Well, it did work far more superbly than anything i tried...i was just referring to the fact that i can not fathom how somebody figured out that precise order to the procedure. It seems random. I meant that in no manner of insult. Did you get that from DFI?
