xinthemourningx Posted October 3, 2005 Posted October 3, 2005 Hello everyone. This is my first post here and WOW this looks like an awesome forum! I'm in the works to build my first Athlon 64 rig. I am leaning towards the DFI LanParty nF4 SLI-DR Mobo. I was just wondering if you guys could tell me what you think of this setup and if it will work well or what suggestions you have to make it even better. My budget is ~ $1000. DFI LanParty nF4 SLI-DR AMD Athlon 64 3700+ San Diego 2 x 512MB PC3200 OCZ Titanium (Model OCZ400512ELTE) eVGA GeForce 6600GT SAMSUNG SpinPoint P Series SP2004C 200GB 7200 RPM 8MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive (I believe it has NCQ as well) OCZ OCZ520ADJ ATX 520W Power Supply ^^ Total $977 @ the egg. Also which is the better core: san deigo or venice. Also, which ram is better the OCZ Titanium or the Crucial Ballistix... I'm having a hard time deciding between em. Boppo Posted October 3, 2005 Posted October 3, 2005 Looks like you did your homework. The San Diego has 1Mb Cache while the Venice has 512K. My 3700+ has been great so far. I have it up to 2805Mhz at the moment on air.
ooztuncer Posted October 3, 2005 Posted October 3, 2005 Another way is getting dagf or ultra mobo (not sli) with the sapphire gto2 (gto squared) video card, which will boost ur gaming experience... xinthemourningx Posted October 3, 2005 Posted October 3, 2005 DOH! I can't believe I didn't notice the difference in cache. Thanks man :-) As for the Sapphire card... I'm more of an nvidia guy then ati. Do the other parts seem like they should work. I'm especially concerned with power supply and ram as I hear it can be tricky on these boards. Boppo Posted October 3, 2005 Posted October 3, 2005 You have two highly recommended parts in that PSU and Mem. You should be able to get that stuff to play I would think.
xinthemourningx Posted October 4, 2005 Posted October 4, 2005 After doing some more research I've changed my mind on a bunch of the stuff. Tell me what you think of this. This forum is truly invaluable :-) DFI LANPARTY UT nF4 Ultra-D SAPPHIRE Radeon X800GTO2 256MB OCZ PowerStream 520W Power Supply AMD Athlon 64 3000+ Venice OCZ EL Gold Series 1GB (2 x 512MB) PC 3200 Kit HITACHI Deskstar 80GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive ARCTIC COOLING Silencer64UltraTC L 87 x 87 x 33 mm Blue LED Light Cooling Fan That comes to $861.93. Spring2188 Posted October 4, 2005 Posted October 4, 2005 i bought a 3200+ venice for $146 shipped from ewiz. It's the OEM version... that might save ya some money and get ya some extra performance. Other than that... looks good
xinthemourningx Posted October 4, 2005 Posted October 4, 2005 Yea but I don't get the AMD 3-year warranty if I get OEM. Also where can I get the thermalright XP-90 heatsink.... newegg only has the xp90c.
Boppo Posted October 4, 2005 Posted October 4, 2005 Spend that extra $140 on a better video card. Defintely go retail on the CPU. Usually the OEM savings is minimal. Seems like there has been a run on XP-90s lately. Someone had posted recently about finding someone that had them in stock, but I can not remember where. xinthemourningx Posted October 4, 2005 Posted October 4, 2005 I think the video card will be ok. It can be modded and OCed to run like a X850 XT PE. Thats damn good for a $229 card.

You do plan to overclock don't you? Your warranty is voided if you do.
red930 Posted October 5, 2005 Posted October 5, 2005 Since you're an ATI guy and haven't purchased yet, you may want to hold out a bit longer for their new cards top be released. If nothing else it may drive the price of the lower-end ones down a bit further. Otherwise looks great man! Oh yeah...what wrong with the XP-90c?
